I have heard some here mention to stay marked up no matter what because you need to make money now before they cut you. How exactly are they going to cut more T&E jobs?! They are short on ppl now, if they cut any more they won’t be able to run more trains which means no money and screws up “ PSR”. You can’t run trains on time with no crews. Even NS isn’t that dumb to cut so deep they can’t even make money! Then again...... The fact is the same thing happened with CSX, they cut way too deep and tanked their railroad, then rushed to hire loads more people when the furloughs didn’t come back. Deja Vu I say, NS didn’t learn from CSX they just gave the usual “we can do it better” speeches. No wonder Squires is selling all his stock! This company has cut everything they can, they just won’t admit failure and just stick with a decent 65% OR. They want every last penny and are willing to destroy themselves to do it. And who is pushing this? Hedge funds and corporate raiders of course, they don’t care what happens to NS long term they just want to pump and dump. These people are evil and never have to see the faces of those they destroy in order to enrich themselves so hear no evil see no evil. America has truly turned itself into a mockery of what it was founded on!

Squires is nothing more than a wh–e selling to the highest bidder.
MS just called me back to work today in Detroit. I’ve been furloughed since October
Stupid comparison. Someone has to repair the units. Mechanical looks at transportation as the customer. Do we directly put the miles on rails? Of course not. With any transportation company someone will have to maintain the engines whether it be Tractor Trailer, Train, Plane, City Bus, etc..It should not be devalued as you say. Thats just ignorant to be quite honest.
I beg to differ on the most hated is T&E... transportation is what makes the money. Mechanical has always been a necessary evil that’s never produced earnings but cost them money
When are the Roanoke Conductors starting class?
To answer gabe's question they will train you up then lay you off again as a pool of available conductors . Roanoke for example is hiring 30 but really only want to keep 6
I quit trying to forecast how dumb NS can be years ago. Every time that I think they've reached peak stupidity, they go and prove me wrong. I used to really enjoy my job and took pride in working for NS, now it's just a paycheck.
Let’s see carloads are way down week over week year over year with no end in sight. They’ve done said that they are going to continually be looking at more terminals to shutter. Train and engine are the most hated of all employees yet the hardest to get rid of but watch what happens when a major terminal that just pulled the switch on the hump to do flat switching reroutes all that traffic to another location. Hundreds of people will be scattering everywhere. They are still combining trains which will mean smaller pools and then in turn smaller extra boards. Luckily it’s vacation season and that keeps things up a bit but that will slow down again in a few months.
Yeah I don’t think Transportation will see too many more cuts. Mechanical and Maintenance of way will
have more throughout the year. I’m a furloughed shop laborer and recently got an email asking if I would interested in transferring to transportation...so why would they send emails like that out if they’re going to keep furloughing.
Well what is to stop them from putting that 4 hr run crew on another train with say an "outlawed" crew? What I am saying is if there is a way they will find it (or at least try it) and if it works so be it.These Scum are willing to try anything to make it work, rather than admit failure.
