Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

North Platte Shop

We been having lots overtime and pulling some units out of storage. Any chances layoffs are over and shop will call some us machinist back to work? Need to make some overtime money to recover. Any one hear any rumors on call backs or layoffs done?

Who is saying that Bailey is "busy as ever"?? I have way less to do than I have had since I started here. The overtime being called is to fill vacation. We are more likely to see another layoff than we are to see anyone called back.

Are we still in risk of shops closing around system. What ever happened to the G55 mark and the 3000 extra employees not needed for 2020. Are they done seems like its been quite for a while. Are layoffs really over. NP is busy as ever! Would NP ever close?

Those 3 machinist each had at least 17 years of seniority, now they're back to being new guys. I echo what the poster before me said, prepare for the worst.

Out of the 80 machinist that got furloughed in Los Ángeles, only 3 came back. This was only because 3 people retired. So don’t count your chickens yet. UP only bring back what is needed due to retirements. As far as Jenks shop, I don’t think half the crew will come back. Plans are in place to shut down another shop. So keep your resume updated.

Call your attorney not your union because they will be using theirs. Just saying they dont give a c-ap about agreements. Their on staff attorneys have not been cut yet from what I hear. You will be dead before it gets resolved in court. Just saying watch what you ask for.

You should see the trains coming from up north to LA and West Colton with tons of units DS. 10 units sometimes in the head end, we look like the Santa Fe trains, with the exception that our power is complete trash compared to their units.

I heard they’re pulling all long term storage back out for work, and no one is getting called back related to locomotive to manpower ratios, it’s obvious UP doesn’t care about the contracts or their employees

Management told our shop we will work 12 hrs a day 6 days a week before the company calls anyone back. Sorry for the bad news, maybe things are different where you work. They made it clear to us there is no intention of bringing people back.
