Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Extraboard Chaos

The board is always empty. There are 6 unfilled spots From furloughs that won’t come back. id–ts keep stepping up to be engineers and depleting CO board because they won’t make EN board big enough. Pools dropping constantly. Getting called off rest constantly. Guys going “Y” constantly. It’s chaos out here. Why are we being victimized because of NS cutting, cutting, cutting? The company is doing a nosedive and trains aren’t going to be running soon enough.

Transportation is your "royalty", mechanical! And some Royalty it is when we work on call 24/7 and get fired at the drop of a hat. You should be kissing our feet with what we put up with compared to you all.

LOL Mechanical calling out transportation. You can take your so called skills and go somewhere else if you don't like it. Because at the end of the day, after you are done sweating outside, you can collect your paycheck courtesy of Transportation who runs the trains on call 24/7 and deals with customers. You only exist to fix our locomotives and track. You have a schedule, get called to work predictably and have camp cars with food waiting for you when you travel. We only get bird dogged by trainmasters 24/7 and hired to be fired. Your problems are amusement to us who suffer 24/7....

Boo Hoo The extra board is all messed uo. Take it from some poor sap in mechanical, we haventseen a bonus in years , and then you might ask, well why do those guys deserve one anyway, its because we sweat just like our royalty transportation does. on the hot tracks . walking for what seems miles in th3e hot sunj. Make no mistake. your reconing day is coming , for our friends in the unskilled transportation dept. Unlike you ,our skills our transferable IE, welding. millright. mechanic ect. No wonder we disdane you.

I remember as a young lad back in the day at my 10th birthday party I had received two chess/checkers sets. I was so mad and disappointed that I had recieved an extraboard. This was pure chaos!

I agree with the don't step up, but what happened to the if you're forced up you should get two time slips, one for conductor and one for new craft. F... this combined job. BS. Where's the union.. uhmm.

Retired NS engineer: my advise to you f—ed over employees is if you don’t have to take a call DONT !! I’ve seen this sh– for many years !! This company cut to the bone marrow, they don’t give a sh– for you or your family !! Your just a RACF number to them !! If you step up your a boot lick 👅 let them park the damn trains! Hitting them where it hurts might make them think twice ! It’s not about the greedy investors!! It’s about preserving jobs !! And if your union LC says take the call , tell him to go f— himself !! Enough is enough!! Good luck !!

What you call this is the company having the best of both worlds. Keep the engineer boards bare knowing they’ll get the train run by conductors stepping up. Conductor board in turn stays inflated to cover all the step-ups.
