Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Bad Decisions

In Houston everyone was forced down a category and you had to fill the bottom categories to the highest percentages. Instead of trying to find a better way typical ExxonMobil just so what we’ve always done.

They could have offered early retirements , packages to key groups with too many employees, offered reduced salaries, the options are vast yet same old same old. But hey we hire only the best and are the best. Brutal truth not so much, hemorrhaging money from Kerl, purchasing assets at their peak, overbidding in Brazil when the geologists said it wasn’t worth that much.

Before the pandemic it seemed that the company wasn’t trying to turn around and actually meet the goals they set in front of them well now I don’t see that happening.

Oh and what about Darren, will he be on a PIP? No because he’s underpaid as a ceo and the ranking system worked for him. Stock just keeps going down under his tenure and let’s not forget about the sacred dividend.

At this point Apple has enough cash on hand to take over and Microsoft could be a 75% owner. When oil prices were good why didn’t we stick some money in the piggy bank and keep it. Think about the interest it accumulates! Bad decisions and poor leadership.

@6iho+15Zibx9o A maximum of 15 people in EM know what April WTI CMA is. Also curious how you know of said loss after leaving the firm. Know your employer is aware of your online activity.

it's "kearl" and it's nothing compared to the loss sustained from april wti cma.

saying that em employees "are" the best made me laugh hysterically - thank you for that. this proves the exact reason i left em years ago, it's filled with "pompous pussies who can't work past 4pm". s&t is an utter joke and heavily lags competitors; that should be your benchmark, how well you perform as a biz compared to others, not if you got all a's in your mba at ut-arlington. look at traf, glencore, vitol, these companies are competent, high performing, machines.

and, again, why are people still comparing em to enron. completely different scenarios. one of the only qualities em actually has, which keeps people around, is controls on its businesses. enron was the opposite, they valued their assets at non-market levels, hid outright losses, and manipulated sec filings. there's absolutely no proof to support an argument that em is doing the same.

There’s no automatic “kicking down one notch” in the assessment meeting. Whoever told you that has no idea of what they’re talking about.

Funny how the CEO stated a during the hay-days that we are a “technology company”, and changed his tune to commodities company.. Not surprised if the next step is non-profit organisation. Darn.. our 401K..

I too went from middle third in prior system to NSI in the new system. Not getting let go or made to do a PIP because of my age - too close to 55. The leaders of our company are all on this we are ExxonMobil journey to be better people. They have a hell of a long way to go.

Was middle 1/3 and told pre-rank and after the post tank, NSI. Asked why, excuse was bad attitude. Unbelievable. EM is very quickly headed down the toilet. May take PIP to try it out and buy some time, but unsure. Thoughts?

To the guy that said scary times for 401k, you literally deserve to be PIP'd if you invested a significant amount into exxonmobil for your retirement plant. That is enron level stupidity.

To the guy that says we could have as a company reduced pay to everyone, I would rather get rid of the bottom feeders than reduce my salary. There are many people that really do not work there pay.

In ranking meetings...If the initial input from all supervisors does not meet the distribution. They knock it down until it meets the distribution and then start the debate. Most supervisors come in high on the rankings and it does not match the distribution. For people with experience and many prior supervisors there are tiepoints (other people that are of equivalent performance that are used to calibrate). Plus rules prevent significant drops in ranking also have to be justified ..They are trying hard to get rid of "halo's" where an employee had a great year in a prior year...but did not perform well in the current year. In the past this held back lower performers who were actually improving. Trying hard to assess performance in the current year.

I was told that whatever your supervisor ranked you was automatically kicked down one notch at the beginning of the ranking meeting and he / she (and hopefully others) had to present a good enough case to get you back to where your supervisor originally had you ranked. This is the very definition of chicken sh–. Goes to show how very little positive input from your supervisor influences your final rank. I've heard multiple examples of people going in ranked Very Good or Excellent going into the ranking meeting and finishing as a Needs Improvement or NSI. At least that's how they did it in Midland ( not sure if this is SOP other places or if this is just another example of Permian making their own rules.
