Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is this what employees really face at Ford?

"I was a great employee and Ieft because ford is a zombie company dreaming of the past and delusional of their capabilities to achieve the future. Now I make 2x the money I did at ford at a supplier. Ford acts like they can do everything internally but always eventually fails and ends up buying it from a supplier due too their incompetence.

This is why ford vehicles are so expensive and they waste money on things like Mobility and ADAS. So not only are customers paying for failed R&D they are also paying for the Supplier profit margins after you buy it from them anyways.

Then the people at ford ADAS or whatever group claim the suppliers work as their own when they did nothing ford management eats it up and continues to invest in people that are clueless.

I come to this site because the ford experience was really one of a kind in the fact that you see what years of layoffs and coasting on free money as if they were a utility company like cable or energy does to the soul of a company.

Now those same people that coasted for decades think they can compete with silicon valley its actually hilarious.

If the Mach-E flops its literally over for Fords attempt at being a tech company.

Should have just stuck to making trucks and avoid investing in tech your management isn't capable of understanding.

Ford views tech as individual features and not a cohesive platform so there is no uniform user experience. This because poor engineering structure of middle management tiers like feature owners and D&R engineers who cannot easily communicate with each other. There is not a good way of knowing who does what because every group operates independently of each other and they rarely work with a cohesive vision between groups and couldnt if they wanted too.

Also they stick to old systems such as CAN network and cannot switch quickly to newer networking protocols because too much dependence on suppliers and resistance to change due too cronyism and politics.

Ford Senior management only focus on shareholder buzz words not making good products "EV" "AV". (And stock still goes down in longest bull market in history) How about just innovate and make a better car and better software and stop trying to revolutionize the world when you can't even make a good website. (Have you seen fords payment systems and shopping process)

When I gave this kind of feedback there was nobody listening because I wasn't 55 years old and hadn't "payed my dues". They held innovation events for ideas improve and it was competitions for who is the biggest id–t for every Karen and wannabe Chad in ford to play popularity contests and make political friends. Nothing actually useful or realistic was brought up.

Ford will forever just copy what they see and exist until they are slowly out maneuvered and can't compete when the industry finally shifts to something they can't just buy or meme their way forward.

Its laughable really I could go on for hours."

It's like when people buy Apple products, they're not looking to buy a blackberry or gateway computer anymore.

And at the point that happened, Apple had been around longer than both blackberry and gateway. They were able to turn it around. That's what we need.

Great post. I am still working in person as everyone is mostly working from home on the project Apollo venture. Being on this project and working with the UAW has been demoralizing and everyone feels beaten down, at least on the engineering support front, even the GE engineers seem lost. Honestly, to this day, they are still working on changes on the ventilators as they try to just spit them out to appease FEMA.

While this is going on and people are working long hours to try to just get this over with, other things about their normal job functions are piling up. When you try to communicate and reach out to the others in your organization or to get ahold of someone needs the work done, you can't, because everyone is just working their own schedule at home and at random. There's no longer any sense of even cohesiveness among even individual groups. They threw a 117 year old company to work at home and I don't see it going that well. As much as there was a disconnected company before the pandemic, it's worse now.

Now lets take the MachE. I don't think it will be successful. People are buying Tesla's as a status symbol and for the name appeal. While the machE may sell at first, I think it's going to be a failure. It's like when people buy Apple products, they're not looking to buy a blackberry or gateway computer anymore.

SRD created huge monstrous organization called EPLM. It just added one more layer of reviews at higher level, and confusion and chaos at lower level. Unclear on how they develop "How to Win" strategy... and actually have competence and ability to implement. Anyone dealth with it ??

@1jzn+15o2eSYo:"Then came F2000 after that things went south."

Do they still have that "Wall of commitment" that all E-Role and above had to sign?

During Ford huddle, you hear all the superlatives like : "great , fantastic job, amazing" from the upper management every other words.

Do they really think we are listening? It felt so disconnected this morning. They are in a bubble somewhere. And we are down here.

There was a time when if you worked at Ford you were proud to say so. In the early to mid-90s we offered products people wanted. Explorer made more profit than F-Series with 1/2 the volume. Expedition came out in 98. Seems like we could not miss. Then came F2000 after that things went south. Product/management/morale/talent etc. all went south. Keep in mind all those products I mentioned we planned before F2000. The management that came in after wards only put on the paint and toke all the credit...The last major launch of the explorer was a disaster you read some of the executive bios some of them did not spend more than two years in a position! I am not trying to live in the past .. But what new segment has Ford invented or entered in the past 20years with a success? F-Series has been around for 40+ years. So replacement business do not count. Escape in 2000,, started off rough.. over 8 recalls,, Edge good launch decent product, Now this year Ford has two Bronco ad a low volume Mach E. Just to give you a picutre..90% of Fords profit comes form F-Series.. So they really need to deliver on Bronco Hi volume. Mach E since it is a low runner you better launch something equal or better than what is out there today. otherwise you fall farther behind. Company use to play to win.. now we follow.

So True! Bill Ford is the most incompetent leader. Henry Ford would be ashamed of his clueless family leading a legendary company. Many of smart engineering student don't wan to work for the company. It is not good.
