Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Anyone else experience racial discrimination at Oracle?

I reported it many times to HR, who just blamed me for being the problem. With the recent unrest, I’m surprised they have not issued a public statement.

I am surrounded by H1B Visa folks. Most of them are good family people, so I have nothing against them. But I would say there is definitely a bias for hiring and keeping H1B employees over Americans. Looking at internal job openings you can clearly see a trend where if the hiring manager is Indian, then 95% or greater of the team underneath will also be Indian. If it was a white male as the hiring manager, and 95% or greater of his team was white, I could almost guarantee someone would say something.

It seems very unfair, and given the climate we are in today, there are not many advocates for American Jobs.

For foreigners working in their non-native country, plenty of times it is because how they refused to respect and adopt the local cultures. Being surrounded by foreigner locally, I have seen enough bad behavior from foreigner living in my neighborhood, bringing their social ills here. Foreigners who think and act as if the local laws don’t apply to them, and flee to their own country when the law catches up.

Sometimes black sheep’s are common from a certain race/nationality... not only Asians.

raises are rare for most of the white employees too...no idea if there is statistical difference or not

This is instead an important conversation we should be having as it's a reoccurring pattern affecting minorities.

In my time at Oracle, I've seen them lay off minorities year after year (in fact, many Asians) in favor of their white employees with the same level of experience. Minorities are the first to go. For those who report racial discrimination to HR, it is known they will dismiss it and not taken seriously. The majority of leadership and management is unfortunately white males - and I sadly do not seeing that change anytime soon.

The company attempts to tout diversity and inclusion, but it is merely a PR stunt.

How is this issue political? This is an HR issue about violations toward protected classes.

The post is political.

Read site rules, no politics.

It'll get heated and mods will nuke it.

I am anti-racism but just sharing my opinion - mods want us to be focused on layoffs

Yes, but it was somewhat subtle. Nothing overtly was ever said to my face. However, the Management Team was nearly 100% white (just 1 asian - and he didn't last) and minorities were rarely promoted or given compensation increases. There is already a lawsuit by the Department of Labor which accuses Oracle of discrimination, and another one by some former female employees. Discrimination was evident, but it is difficult to prove if you don't have documented e-mails, IMs, phone conversations, etc.
