Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Fired

My buddy just got fired because he blew hot. He thinks he can go threw a program and go back to work but it will take six months. Is this true or is he confused.

Another way around it is get your coworkers to talk about why you failed the test and then threaten a HIPPA law violation lawsuit. Then you can get your job back with back pay. It’s happened before.

Or you could be completely clean and be laid off like 90 percent of the people on this site!!

If you fail a d–g and alcohol test its your choice the 1ST TIME admit you have a problem and go through the DARS program or be dismissed. I dont believe there is any compensation while in the program. If you complete the program and do everything they ask you can be reinstated THE 1ST TIME. However they can test you at any given time and ive known some say they've been tested at their residence also. So you pretty much have to either give whatever it is up completely or seek other employment. As another poster mentioned you can go to the company BEFORE being caught and ask for help as many times as necessary.

False, the company can catch you only once and you have the chance to go through DARS and get clean, if you’re caught and 2nd time your fired, but you can check yourself in all you want, I’m speaking from experience 🤣

If your friend did not state he was on d–gs and wanted to go to DARS before the test, he is f—ed. You have to admit to having a problem before pissing hot. Should have already knew that....

DARS doesn’t have a time frame and their is no guarantee of a return to work. Most people are out of work for the first 3 months, but it’s a two year program. The program is designed to encourage 100% abstinence for alcohol and other commonly abused substances, legal or not. If 100% abstinence is asking too much, then perhaps encourage your friend to seek employment at a nice retail store or fast food restaurant .
