Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Pregnant and Laid Off

No context around why I was laid off. I was offered 2 weeks of severance. A joke.

Anyone with 2 years of service or less is given 2 weeks of severance pay. That's standard. Only full years are considered as years of service. If you worked for Optum for 2 years and 8 months, only get severance for full 2 years. It s—s.

File for unemployment with your state as soon as you can.

I would go to HR and demand the Maternity Leave on top of the severance or threaten to take them to court being in a protected class. You really arent part of a protected class but given todays environment that class could easily extend to pregnant females.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. This is such a rough time. I hope that you find a job where there are more supportive people who recognize you as a person, not a number. Try to take it easy and take really good care of yourself. I know that's easy said than done. I did online freelance work throughout my whole high-risk pregnancy, so I get it. Hugs.

I wrote the comment below the last one. I wanted to make clear I was an account administrator there for a long time from when the moved from the old branch to the new one a few blocks away.
That was the woodland hills california location to be specific.
Just so anyone knows not to apply there if you are laid off. Good luck to you all since it is tough out there at the current time.

Just be glad you aren't at aetna where they would have treated you worse.
Is severance still a thing?
There are layoffs everywhere in the health insurance industry. I suggest going into
another line of work.
If you asked a simple question at aetna from a trainer they would be yell at you and be rude with you.
They would treat you lower than slime.
They wouldn't care about your condition.

I thought the minimum was three weeks. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care about you being pregnant. They wouldn't see that as being their problem. Not do they need a reason other than it being a business decision. It's a rough game they play with our livelihoods.

If you are going into your second year of service that is a standard severance package. One week for each year of service. It’s not much.
