Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Any news on furloughed store employees?

Somebody notified corporate furloughed employees about what's going to happen to them, any chance somebody can do the same thing for the rest of us? Just so we know where we stand, considering how close we are to the expiration of additional unemployment benefits.

Like others have said, employees brought back were ranked. Those most essential, but also those who had been most willing to do whatevers asked, work whereever, willing to stay late or come in early were deemed the more important have been brought back. Since then, it seems to be a combo of the next tier of highly ranked employees or those needed in a certain spot (ie dept) where others recalled could not/would not come back. It's a new ballgame and they want those most eager (desperate?).

What I'm saying is if you did your job, did it well and did it for a LONG time, great. But if you punched in on time and out on time, never volunteered to stay late, come in early, work OT, never want to work holidays, and most important NEVER volunteer to help out in a job/dept that's different than yours (ie "that's not my job"), I would say you should be updating your resume now. (btw, this is in reference to FT and even PT. Flex employees I think it's up in the air)

Health benefits payment run out at end of month when new year begins. The extra 600 everybody loves expires end of next month (and I doubt it will be renewed). Not saying everyone not recalled is going to be let go. But I think a good majority will and the news will be coming out soon. jmo

If you don't have sanitizer, you complain. Gallons of the stuff was sent to every store. Ask where it is. There's refillable containers for every register and desk, and now even stations set up in these white dispensers that sit on the floor. Gloves arrived for store opening and if they run out it only takes an email to get another supply in. We have the black masks for everyone. There's someone doing the touchpoint cleaning all day. Yes, we are all working harder than ever. If we don't, we face the loss of our store and our jobs. You can count on it. If you don't want to do it, resign. If you want to be part of the reason we succeed, then toughen up and dive in. If your store isn't up in everything that's supposed to be put in place for health and safety, have a discussion with your SM and if it's not done then, call SIS.

I've been called back and let me tell you, i regret it every day that I'm at the store. Management blatantly lies in your face & puts on a happy face you know is fake, you do the work of 3 or more people and then deal with customers be inconsiderate and rude,no social distancing and thinking they are at a fleamarket. At my store they are not providing employees with hand sanitizer and you have to ask for gloves, health & safety is a mess and monitored by some inadequate individuals that are called people leaders. The fact that Macy's keeps changing their internal structures like underwear should tell you enough. They don't know what they're doing. Their passive aggressive behavior is what's wrong with the company, people that have been there for decades need to leave, call in fresh faces..the ones Macy's has had for these past decades clearly are not doing a good job. I work out of choice, I hate it for the people that have to work because that's their livelihood.

Let's not talk about that old registers and such in stores...isn't this a multi billion dollar company???? Ask Jeff where his forward thinking braincells are, Macy's is far behind in retail technology. Less parades and more instore upgrades...if and when they survive. Stay well!

Trust me when I say this, consider yourself lucky. Take the time to save some money if you can. I am sure it's more than what you were making at Macy's. Find a job that doesn't require you to do the work of five people for such little pay. Find a job that doesn't just leave you in the dark for months. Find a place where you will feel appreciated. A place with some job security, where you don't have the big dark cloud of store closures and layoffs always looming over your head-I know that the economy isn't great, but there are better jobs out there, that will provide some job security. Because, let's face it, even when the economy was good, we all still faced the inevitable beginning of the year staff reduction/store closures. (Great morale booster-while you are working yourself to death over the holidays & not spending time with loved ones, in the back of your mind you wonder if you'll even have a job come January.) BTW- I don't work at a Neighborhood store, our store actually does pretty well. So if I'm feeling this way, I imagine others are too. When or if you finally do go back, you will wish you had spent this time finding something that is worth going back to.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that we are being kept in the dark with our benefits expiring in 2 weeks!

Of more immediate concern than the "expiration of additional unemployment benefits" (July 31st) is the fact that the new medical plan takes effect July 1st, and, uhm, presumably the premiums will need to be paid prior to that, which leaves only 2 weeks and counting.
