Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

Why is it so bad?

We're in a perfect storm. We have the recession, end of the fiscal year, and uncertainties about the future of the pandemic and social unrest.

With FY end, we'll inevitably see restructuring and some layoffs. It's already happened at MSN. But FTE layoffs probably won't be very high at this point. There's no way to know what the future brings, which of course causes anxiety.

If it's true that vendor budget has been cut 30-40%, my guess is that would account for 30,000 vendor jobs cut, does it not?

For anyone who's worried, redirect your anxiety in productive ways. Brush up your resume and add to your skill set. That's always good advice.

Tech companies are simply focussed on hiring H1B's, they will layoff local folks but continue to hite H1B's, forget African Americans.

Going forward I will not be identifying which race I am when I apply to see how much that factors into things. I am not racist by any means. But if they chose to interview someone based solely on the color of their skin vs how qualified they are based on their resume then something is definitely wrong in the world in general. Not just tech world. I've worked with some african americans that were smart and knew what they were doing, Then I worked with some complete boneheads who should not have been hired on in the first place. The same applies with White folks. I've been in interviews where the people doing the interviewing were only Indian and I could barely understand them. Yet they didn't think I would be the right "fit" . They prob wanted someone of their race so they could talk more comfortably in their language when they didn't want people who couldn't speak their language to listen. My boss at one of my previous jobs was Indian but he was great person all around. Just very hit or miss on who you are goin to get anymore. But yeah going forward I will not be selecting which race I am.

This only shows that racism is alive and well in the tech world. Tech talks a good diversity game but the results are another matter.

Tech companies need to focus on hiring more African Americans. The hiring rate is dismal. I don't believe the talent doesn't exist. They aren't trying hard .
