IT has plans to insource a lot of the work done by vendors. Why insource work done by AT&T, NTT, etc?. Why not hiring more software developers to build new software that we could sell?.

CTO is ex Cisco executive...she thinks everything can be automated with Cisco products
also, i don't know of a single person who was on networking teams with me who applied for a HW position
Good luck with it Honeywell, I was a vendor there for 8 yrs on the network team, they are in for a world of hurt and NOT getting work done.
Most of the positions are in India. With a very small percentage in US.
There are plenty of successful technology companies that have started with less than 400 to 600 developers.
Probably just trying to get out of most ridiculously overpriced or abusive / failed contracts and replace them with cheaper employees overseas and a few "leaders" to be on the hook for it? The job postings themselves would tell the tale of what the goal is.
Most of our vendors have worked with Honeywell for years. Why in the world would they want to be Honeywell employees?? They know how we are treated
I’m hoping for the next RIF myself HUB strategy here I come!
They opened a “software center” in Atlanta in 2017 and hired a bunch of developers, just to fire most of them this year. They were never able to build a product, leadership completely failed, and now those jobs are going overseas.
It doesn't work that way. You have to find some place where you can get a foothold instead of trying to break into a market where to be successful you have to displace the whale with your first product.
If Hw is a software company why dont they build the replacement for SAP? While SAP is powerful it requires way to many manual interventions to make it work....inputs need to be made with AI.
Too bad they RIFd so many technical IT people from the SBGs over the years. This will fail too. It’s Honeywell. The whole motivation is cost savings. You get what you pay for....
The insourcing is not meant for external sales of software. It’s meant more for the backbone organizations particularly for SAP and Networking. Word from new CTO is that we spend too much money on vendor resources who don’t always have Honeywell’s best interest in mind (surprise!). On one presentation she gave I believe I saw that she committed to insourcing ~400-600 positions would result in saving $4-5 Million dollars.
I know that they are buying out a lot of contracts from vendor companies and converting those contractors into full time employees.
Which is completely the opposite of what many of the SBGs are going through right now.
Insourcing only happens when forced. I bet there was some kind of cyber security issue.
Um....have you ever tried to build a software company?
