Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

NS Safety is no longer

Here at SCX Loco today, we observed Roanoke City Police hanging around the Main Line performing a search. We then witnessed NS Police swarming the yard in their black Dodge Durango's and White SUV's. We as Mechanical employees had no idea what was going on. As it turns out, there was a shooting just 2 blocks away and they figured the thug was possibly on NS property. Trains were ordered to stop and not to arrive at SCX. Construction crews working on tearing down the hump and preparing for future flat swithing were also notified.

Ironically, us Mechanical employees were never notified of this going on. WOW! NS!!! DONT TELL ME Sh– ABOUT JOB BRIEFINGS, OR ACTIVE SHOOTING SCENARIOS EVER AGIAN!!! WHAT A F—ING CLUSELESS GROUP WE HAVE AT SCX!!!

Its all on a need to know basis. You didnt need to know, all you need to do is keep working. I think we are losing sight of the fact we have a small window to get these cars out in order to get to the low 60s operating ratio we promised are valued shareholders.

Your management team is like ours they were busy catching up on the latest YouTube videos or Emailing back and forth trying to look busy or micromanaging a machinist or laborer,I think we have 50 % supervision and 50% hourly in Norfolk now,unbelievable

Place is a complete joke when it comes to situations like that. Pretty sure I heard a shot ring out several days ago from the same housing development when I was on the east end of the shop. In the situation where they were actively looking for someone the shop personnel should have been notified and possibly been put in the lunch room with a cop in the hall.

Unfortunately the reality is NS does not care about your life as an employee. God forbid an employee ended up getting shot and k–led in crossfire; the first thing Squires and his legal time would be worried about is how to minimize the cost to the company in a lawsuit. Sorry it’s the truth, I’m convinced if he had the choice between an extra million dollars to his bonus or avoided a fatality, he’d take the money.

We heard about this well after the incident happened as well and yes I agree the safety meeting is useless ( or what's left of it ) and I recall the active shooter training that well I guess was useless as well !! I cant imagine what would or could have happen if this pursuit have came through the car shop just 50 yards away

Yes. I heard the same thing. Shooter was arrested not far from the SCX Car Shop. I'm glad NS Mechanical made us as safe as possible. Phone calls will be made made!!!
