Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon Has No time off Policies

Verizon does not have unapproved absence policy or it does not implement existing policies. You can call of unlimited number of days, there is no consequences whatsoever. People keep calling off and not showing at work many times, but zero action taken against those calling off. We had several people keep calling off. We even had to close the store two days because only one person showed up for work. This company is ridiculous now. Just call off. Don't show up. No action will be taken against you. I have the proof of three reps who called off at least 15 times since the beginning of the year. Managers are coding time off as store closure, not as absence. This is costing Verizon millions of dollars and keeping the lazy on the payroll.

If I needed to get fired. What's the best way? Almost a decade has been devoted to vzw. I've lead my store for nearly all of them. Now we lose our jobs come Feb 1 because I won't hand over my med records showing I had the "va((ine" ... Well we go into vzw purgatory so we will be off work without pay for 60 days... Then we get charged for our medical insurance after that period is over.

  • so they want us to quit. That ain't happening. I can't be fired for any fault of my own if I'm going to collect unemployment.

Honestly it all depends on how management team and hr code it. If you are late or leave early UIA if you call out or due to Covid it’s UIA.

This is false. I’ve had 2 write ups that I’ve delivered since June for call outs.

Its actually has to do with the managers and how they code your absence. In the past I've seen reps written up because they've called out more than 40 hours in a year and that's a final written. The retail stores are in a terrible mess with untrained managers ,the most part, have no direction for employees safety. What's changed from March 15th when they closed the stores! Absolutely nothing!

It’s a shame these are the steps being taken. NOBODY wants to expose themselves to a customer all day. Often having their nose pop out, or argue about wearing a mask. CEO would not expose themselves like this, nor any other sr “leader”. Apple closed stores in hot spot areas weeks ago. Vz wants to be #1? Go ahead and do it.

I can confirm this. When somebody calls out, they are supposed to use their sick days. This is no longer true now. When somebody calls out for any reason, managers are coding that absence as paid absence like store closure. So, if you can call out, your are not forced to use any sick time. So technically you can call out many times without any negative consequences. This is Verizon where lazy and underachiever are rewarded.

@khn+168VUxYv I don’t think they are talking about an FMLA situation because you are not paid unless you decide to use your own PTO. I was always under the impression that if an employee maxed out the 5 sick days any additional after that would come out of vacation or personal days. So the original poster may not fully understand that.

If an employee has evaporated the 5 sick days and they call off claiming they have a covid symptom it is automatically approved. Zero you can do about it and yes employees are abusing this. I don’t blame them however and since the company decided to mess with everyone’s pay going to team commish there will be a lot of abuse and laziness going forward. There are many silent bitter reps out there and as we start to see those 600-700 commission checks things will get worse. You will really see morale totally out of control towards the end of September. This will be the first check without guaranteed relief.

If the employee has FMLA and they are with in their doctors approval. There is nothing they CAN do about it.
