Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

IT Layoffs - Please Read

I did this once before and I got hammered in the comments.

I am a longtime IT Manager. I’ve done well. Verizon and all the cellular companies before Verizon helped me achieve a lot of personal goals. I have no complaints. If it ends for me this year, it ends.

I’m writing this for the IT employees that I care about. I’ve built up relationships with a lot of you. I genuinely care about the people I work with. I knew that those employees that stayed after the VSP would be safe for a year. In addition to recovering from VSP, we had various third-party folks to deal with. As you all know, the last fourteen months have been a challenge.

The post VSP year has come and gone. COVID has actually changed a number of plans. Call Center, Retail, HBA, and others have had to adjust. IT will need to adjust as well.

For EUS/Desktop Support and other IT departments, please do a few things. If you have the opportunity to take a training class, do it! If you have the opportunity to learn a new IT skill, do it! Protect yourselves. Gather every new skill that you can. Changes are coming. Layoffs are coming. At the very least, acquire something new to add to the resume. If you were recently moved to a new manager, update your resume and LinkedIn profile.

Again, protect yourselves. Start training yourselves now. If you are not on the list, then your current manager will be happy you are looking to the future with Verizon. If you are going to be let go, then at the very least, you have improved your IT knowledge. Begin now. Do not wait. Do not procrastinate. Do what you can to help the person in the mirror.

I’ve given all the information I can. I don’t want to give myself up. Like I said earlier, I care about my employees and the people I work with. It hurts to watch someone doing work for me when I already know that their time is short. It is brutal. It is beyond painful. I know of one manager that broke down crying after a call discussing what is coming.

If you are an IT employee, don’t turn the comment section into the YouTube comment board. This isn’t about calling someone you don’t know names. This isn’t about some insecure weak need to troll others. This isn’t about Infosys, HCL, outsourced centers, politics, or anything else other than someone that cares about fellow employees. I want you to start planning now. Do what you can to make the transition as easy as possible.

I’ll post this on both boards.

This is probably why my manager sent out an email recently asking us if we've been updating our resume.

(Not in IT, but I'm an Engineer within the Wireless Network)

With all due respect but does no one actually verify the work done by these off shore agents?

NOPE. They want to lay off and/or outsource your knowledgeble staff, this is what you get. There is
no one left for oversight.

God f—ing damn it. Again? I love you guys in IT but for f—s sake what the f— is management thinking? Ever since VSP every single ticket I put in just gets a response on the days I am off and then the rep closes the ticket because of non response. Hell I even lied one ticket about my availability and got a response on the alleged day that I put as my unavailable time and the guy was surprised I answered then said they were still working on it. With all due respect but does no one actually verify the work done by these off shore agents?

Who ever you are, youre awesome and absolutely correct. Im not in IT but in technical sales, same goes with our group, learn GCP, AWS, get a cert or 2. Take advantage of free LinkedIn Learning or PluralSight. Good luck to all!
