Federal law requires workers to be given a separation date if they’re furloughed for longer than six months.

Not quite, theyjust have to notify separations or conditions to return. If you go past 6 months the WARN act comes into play though.
Would you mind linking where you found this? I would love to take a look into it deeper but so far I do not see this on any of the pages I have visited.
