Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Widows and Orphans - company and layoff summary

It's been a great pleasure to monitor this board since mid-July.
Seems like ages (even longer than the decade (month) I spent in Baytown '15).

This has been an informative board.
Depending on your view, a cultural black comedy or predictable corporate tragedy.
But this isn't a board review. Just a summary.

One key perception:
No comments or feedback on this board express any sense of Surprise or true Astonishment at the action of the company management or hierarchy. Virtually every post - except for those of fake naives (comics) - is accepting of 'the nature of the beast' as someone way down below expressed it.

Somewhere below is link to MarketWatch doc of late July on the 401K debacle.
This quote expresses the EM idea of business described on this board by the scientists, engineers, operators, etc. This is accepted. That's the way it is. Same as it ever was.

I regret stopping my study - but I got work to do.

Quote:
"The dividend has long been considered sacrosanct at ExxonMobil, a classic “widows and orphans” stock. And in a rarity in corporate America, the dividend has been hiked for 37 years in a row, making the company a rare “Dividend Aristocrat.” It’s a title that’s anointed to firms that raise their payouts each year for at least a quarter-century, and is considered a matter of great pride by the firm."

The dividend has not been hiked every year for 37 years. It has stayed the same or sometimes increased, but never went down.
