Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

More layoffs coming after earnings release

More layoffs will be coming after earnings release. Expect to lose about 10% - 15% of staff depending on store size/type.

Well if you knew in the ball park how much everyone made in the store you would see a lot of high paid associates are gone. Low pay slacker associates stuck around. My guess is this is the Macy’s way. Once and if they get back in their feet. They will off the slackers for new meat to brainwash into the company bogus lies and culture

Exactly right! Hiring is is going to get M back to minim staffing levels, and extra for calculated turn rate.
Then simply filling spots for those that took packages and/or left. M will need to stay very lean and mean for Q3 & Q4.

And no they simply didn't let go all the BEST working team members low pay or low productivity workers. Be realistic who in the right mind in this environment would want low productive workers?

The furlough was an opportunity to do a retail cleansing and now they are suffering because all the great people were not called back. Not by an accident but who is suffering now? All the best to all the wonderful colleagues out there, be safe!!!

They are adding mostly part time and full time where needed. If they are opening Jurassic Park on Thanksgiving they need to have enough people working there

Jobs are being added at the rate of 80-120 per day at Macysjobs.com since recent layoffs resulted in too few remaining colleagues. Hiring is commencing at a very rapid pace now, so more widespread layoffs are not likely at earnings release. What IS likely to occur is considerable store closures-remember what JG has repeatedly said since we came back after the mid-March furlough, "Macys will emerge from this a much smaller company". Only shuttering entire stores will accomplish this, not sparsely staffing 660+ buildings with 40% of the foot traffic they once generated. Dont forget that a couple hundred neighborhood stores were already slated to close in the next 2 years BEFORE covid. The pandemic is not only accelerating that process but increasing the number to include many core stores as well. Macys WILL do what it deems necessary to survive where the others have succumbed, make no mistake.
