Thread regarding Ford layoffs

And they wonder why we are failing so hard

So of course this is how it always works to find what heads to cut – which is why Ford never gets it right. Step 1.. pull headcount report. Next, eliminate all Ford family members and their special friends from the list. Next, remove all senior executives and their special friends from the list. Next remove all the PDLP people from the list because of course we need more management and these people got on the program because they were someone's special pet. Next remove all the FCGs from the list because we need as many children with no experience to run things further into the ground after the cut experienced staff. See how this goes. And they wonder why we are failing so hard.

Perfectly stated, @jdx+16JUFhUp. Couldn't agree more.

@4wvt yes logic still ruled the company at that time, but the slide started in the mid 90s. 1996 Taurus anyone? Contour anyone? The company started to get too c—y with what they were offering. Also committee decision making started to take over; shedding personal accountability. Toyota did not surpass Ford by accident; the company settled in their comfort zone of trying to appease Wall Street. I often wonder about all the companies acquired in the late 80s and 90s; all the investment squandered. If they wanted global luxury, you could have made new Lincoln name plates a hell of a lot cheaper than buying Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, and Volvo. Missed opportunity and short sightedness. Again, just blunder after blunder. Never quite recovering to the same level before or growing, always giving up a little each time. Schools of business could teach a whole class on Ford and what not to do.

Well I guess you can say Ford is a Kingdom and not a public company! Nor is a King born he is made Billy. Since 1995 I have watched this company decline living off the fruits of of two vehicle lines the F-Series & the second generation Explorer until that brand was ruined.
This company use to play to win now we just play to get buy. We cost cut things only to turn around and put them back in a a increased price or warranty spikes because of it. Q1 or Built Ford Tough meant something they were not sales slogans.
I am sorry people but Billy is not a leader nor is he inspirational. In fact he is boring. He was fired buy his own family in 06. You may recall some family members threatened to dump the preferred stock if he did not step down.
But since F2000 What new segment have we created or entered with success? Edge was decent and this Bronco on the outside looks like a hit.. We walked away from sedans yet our competition like Toyota will jump on that. You hear we went away from cars because we could not make money. Yet we built the Fusion in Mexico? I am not a s-xist or racist,, but those guys in Truck back before F2000 knew what they were doing. they knew their customer better than anyone. Since their departure our management bench and talent has declined. Instead of bring people up to a standard they lower it. Yes the company was lucky Alan was available , but that type of person comes once in a while. I am sorry but Billy and the 2 Jim's.. don't even measure past the sole of Alans shoes. What is the vision? What is the plan?
I don't see courage from either of them. The Huddle last week, That news about the VIP should have come from Jim F not Kumar. JF is the leader he should provided that direction.. Keep an eye on future F Series sales over the next five years. Once those slip under 700k and keep declining.. what will the response be?

Guys! No worries Ford Family will soon loose their place in this company. They say you are family but they lay you off after you worked hard for 20-30 years in their company. That's not family!!! I think young generation joining the company is stupid to stay in corporations that don't treat older generations right.

Absolutely!! - Amen! also, these bozo managers just want to protect their empires so they will throw around "critical skills" loosely to protect their own agendas. They are battling it out at this very moment to protect their turf. Doesn't matter how bust we are ............. WE'RE NOT BUSY!!
This is all BS. I'm gone regardless.

Spot on! The Big Data strategy has been a big bust. GDIA keeps demanding data that won't help with the customer experience, wasting time and money.

A big problem is that even with those eliminations and another 1,000, it just isn't enough. We are wasting over a BILLION dollars per year dreaming of ideas to use the data we don't have to sell something. It would seem "smarter" to actually have some useable data first. Unfortunately for those of us actually doing vehicle design and manufacturing, these dreamers are dragging down our financials at a time when we just cannot afford "want to have" projects. If we are ever going to get to 10% margins, we need to keep the cart behind the horse.....
