Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

For those thinking of quitting before your severance...

The best way to repay Allstate for their transparency in this Transformative Growth strategy is to stick it out. Once they've laid off all they're planning and your job is secure, then start finding something else. Leave Allstate holding the bag when all they've laid off all of the senior workers and hired inexperienced ones. Stick around, make them pay you your severance, and then immediately bail before the new employees can be trained appropriately. In the claims department it takes at least 4 months from hire before you're ready for a "full" workload, and almost 9 months to become somewhat proficient.

OP do you realize that you don’t get severance if you’re not laid off? If you don’t get laid off and choose to quit after the layoffs you don’t get severance or unemployment, your voluntarily leaving your job at that point

After all that some employees have been through it would serve Allstate well if older employees who have made the cut wait for the end of the RIF and then turn in retirement paperwork, while other 'saved'employees leave for other companies. The 3000+ layoffs could become 10,000+ empty desks

How about if I've been with the company just for a couple of years? Severance won't be much in my case

It depends in my opinion. Generally I say yes stick it out but if something comes along with higher pay, better benefits and overall better opportunity you may want to consider taking it. It would have to be a definite upgrade though.

The shutdown from COVID will probably be almost gone by January, making the job market a bit better for those able to delay the job search until then.

The dumbest move you could ever make would be to quit prior to finding out if you have some severance coming to you. That is flat out wasting money that you are owed. Don’t let them win and quit before you find out at least.
