Thread regarding SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. layoffs

Some coverage

SeaWorld broke the news in a letter to the US Securities and Exchange Commission that many of its furloughed staff would be laid-off, but not saying how many workers will be affected, or what their roles were at their parks.

Lets see...maybe if they hadn't given the corporate leadership $6.8 million in stock options during a pandemic, there would be room for pay rasises or keep more of our Ambassadors at SEA, BG, Sesame and the water parks employed.

Its pretty much as described. Seaworld now pays a 3rd party company for HR work. Except for a small handful that were lucky enough to come back, likely in terms of super high levels or required for job knowledge. Don't have to pay them benefits and can cut them anytime they want without penalty really.

I forgot to ask what do you mean that HR was contracted out?

HR made the decision as to who stayed and was termed is ridiculous. I emailed them and they said oh we appreciate you wanting to come back...yeah right

HR has been contracted out, at least at Orlando.

We were told close to 2000. HR brought back 3 hourly and 2 have already moved on to greener pastures.... good for them!

Does a responsible employer allow their HR department to be so dysfunctional? To be clear HR made the decisions of who stayed vs termed. And I hear it is a toxic work environment of distrust, disgust, and depressed employees.

“When you hear that SeaWorld has lost millions of dollars, and I'm sure as responsible employers they're gonna try to keep on as much as they could, but we're just not seeing the numbers,” said Mayra Uribe, an Orange County Commissioner. "So it's really bad for us economically because it just makes more challenges and barriers on how we're going to move forward.” -

I guess a responsible employer is one who would give a promotion to a person who has a project that comes in double their budget... or when they give millions in stock to their top leadership immediately after throwing thousands off of health insurance at the start of a pandemic.

Yes, i am sure they did the best they could as -responsible- employers.
