Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Jut an FYI

I know a lot of people are worried about what's to come, but take it from somebody who has already been laid off - there are many companies out there doing much more interesting work that offer better pay, benefits, and most importantly work culture. In the end, being impacted by layoffs might turn out to be better than staying on with Allstate for many of you. It certainly did turn out that way for me.

I'd like to echo the words of the "posters" about finding a different path. There is a better life after Allstate. Keep in touch with connections you've made over the years. When I got laid off last year, I was hired by one of my connections. I'm doing different work but from the other side of insurance so my knowledge came in handy. I was blessed with a great boss who appreciates me and work with a small group of terrific people. No more 8 weeks of PTO, but it's a pleasure to come to work everyday. To all of you who are worried, don't be. Trust yourself and your higher power. You will be fine!

A layoff is just a way for the lord to provide a path to you that will lead to a better life. If you believe in yourself and our savior good things will happen.

Don't forget that when the lord provides you with a good path to look for those that need a hand, the lord is providing them help through you.

I can echo what the original poster has shared. Allstate has been in my rear view mirror for a couple years now. Better things are out there than hating to go to work everyday like it was at big blue.

Where did you find a job opportunity? There’s almost nothing out there in insurance right now especially if you are trying to change careers. Most of those jobs require prior experience.

I think the insurance industry overall lags in work culture as well as benefits and pay compared to other jobs for their size as corporations. Allstate used to have great benes and the old pension was awesome but in recent years it's been cost cutting and reduction of benefits. I don't think they are unique. Most insurance companies, particularly claims, just don't keep up.

To be fair it's tough when there's stockholders pressuring to squeeze every dollar out of their investment and with companies pretty much tied to what States will allow in terms of premium and sales along with the uncertainty of claims happening especially Cat claims it's rough.

Still I think the leadership is lacking overall. Wilson has been terrible as a leader from many perspectives. When the upper echelon don't take cuts along with the worker bees it's demoralizing.
My advice is to get out of insurance overall especially if you are in claims. It's the tail end of the comet and always has been.
