Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

Pioneer is not a good place to work

Sadly, Pioneer has become the place you join if you want your career to die. Nobody joins this company unless they really have to - it's been like this for years. And by employing people nobody else will, the company just keeps sinking lower and lower. We are stuck with no way out of this mess.

Pioneer historically has made money in spite of itself, those day are over. The future cannot lose 900 million in a Qtrly. on drilling costs, build vast buildings that look like stacked bricks, and no integrated efforts from the silo driven business units. Pioneer is at a crossroads on growth and spending its cash much more wisely. Prudent fiscal changes implemented will assure a future and not a slow decline into oblivion

Pioneer gave some people a safe haven to be mediocre or not even subpar! I have such stories of that privilege only awarded to some! The hiring practices with hand picked friends who don’t qualify but are good old boys! I know managers who set up their employees so the fuzz department can put their nail in their coffin! It’s all a set up man you just don’t know it till you piss off the wrong person!

Exactly, listen to the folks spouting that BEST nonsense and they likely haven't held a position at a real E&P company before (at the professional level) OR Pioneer has let them get away with murder without necessarily being exceptional. 90% of managers are Brown-nosers and would not win an argument with a mid-level contributor at a real company.

They pay and benefits are matched and beaten by lots of companies. I left a few years back...am better paid with equal benefits and no psychotic middle managers. Put that koolaid down. Granted jobs are hard to come by at the moment, but dont kid yourself that this situation was unavoidable. There are certainly worse places to work, but PXD is not the pinnacle of great places.

From my standpoint, Pioneer has been a wonderful place to work. I have worked at Pioneer for over 20 years. There was a time when I thought there were better companies, and I left for a few years and came back. The grass is not always greener on the other side, trust me. I know it depends on what group you are in, but the pay and benefits are unmatched by other companies, and the people have been great.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say there’s a way out. And uh, it’s coming up here pretty soon
