EM is as ruthless as the Roman Empire and now suffering its own fall as did the Roman Empire. It demands total obedience but total commitment and excellence on their terms on the pain of extermination. Think even the Roman Army practice of decimation- nicely rephrased as PIP. This ethic (for want of a better word) is so embedded that even ‘nice’ people subscribe and enforce - if only as a means of survival.

I would say that EM is the last Soviet Republic, but Roman empire is OK too
Funny thing is America is rapidly moving towards the fall like the Roman empire.
