Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

If you moved to the location as an existing employee less than 2 years ago, you'll get a move back. If you were a new hire, the benefit is if you moved within the last year. Apparently it is based on your termination date, so you may qualify now but not by the time you're taken off payroll. The severance move policy is posted somewhere.

I wouldn’t say you still get a severance if you apply to 4 jobs. It could be you are involuntary assigned to a job you don’t want. Like maybe in San Ramon or even worse, Midland.

It can and has happened in past ROMs.

Apply for 4 jobs! If you don’t get one of them you still get take the EOI benefit.

I remember when I got the news, then went around trying to find jobs to post for. I knew it was over when they told me "you have to post for a job outside your discipline, because they are all taken. Also there is no way anyone will get a job outside their discipline."

There have been multiple cases of write-in candidates in R3 placed in jobs in "undesirable" locations such as Midland, Bakersfield. The key difference with this reorg is if you choose to EOI, then you would not be a write-in candidate for any job. If you apply to 4 jobs and get none, then it is up to the discretion of the Selection Rep to write you in into jobs you may not want.

In previous ROM's, EOI was the option for those either eligible to retire or left standing after applying to 4 jobs. Only this year that the EOI button is available to ALL employees without the circus of self assessment writing and interviewing with job owners. GL

In the end, apply for your position, plus the others to the maximum allotted. If you get one, be happy, because many others may not be so lucky. If you EOI, or no position, you get the severance. May be worth the risk to get into a new career, adventure, or industry. I wish you the best in the current market with all the external factors going on.

As another Round 4-er, I totally understand the OP's sentiment. Only difference for me is my position/group still exists....just the total headcount is reduced and more responsibilities and more regional travel. Yes, I will be applying for my job, but applying for the maximum number as well....because at the end of the day, its still a job and something is better than nothing. While keeping (or obtaining), a new position, I will be happy to have one. Yet, in the back of my mind, the idea of CVX, and its consistent use of "We have a pension," only go so far when compared to similar pay/Remuneration of the area especially if regrading are to occur.

As others have said, there is nothing to lose selecting 4 jobs and getting laid off vs selecting EOI....UNLESS you end up in a rare situation where you're selected for a job you didn't apply for.

Yes, it's possible (although maybe not likely) that you will be selected for a position that the selection team deems you better qualified for than the others that applied for it. So it could be that you are offered a job that you don't want and/or is at a location you don't want to move to. If you turn down a job that you were placed in, but didn't apply for, it will be considered a voluntary termination (quit) and will not be subject to severance benefits.

Regarding paying for relocation...Chevron will pay for you to be relocated back to the location you recently moved from, but your termination date has to be within a window of time from when you were moved from your prior location. I'm not sure if EOI qualifies for relocating you back to your prior location....definitely check with HR on those policies as they may have changed.

If u want to leave then EOI. If u are not ready to then apply for the 4 jobs. But be aggressive and call the job owners for each job and try to get as much info as u can. A friend (his position was eliminated) called 18 job owners plus the PDR rep. He got a job in Rnd 3. If you know of some boomers that may be EOI’ing call them to get as much info as you can since in those cases the incumbent will retire. I was one of those boomers and folks were calling me about my job, i didn’t mind letting them know i was EOI’ng to help them out (but dont ask if the r EOI’ng - they will tell u if they want). Remember the job owners will prioritize the top candidates in order of 1 thru 5 or so, then the selection committee will review it. So talking to the job owners can help n you may be able to sell your skills a little bit. Good Luck.

Totally understand. I was put in a developmental coaching role two years ago. Now the role is dissolved and I have to unseat someone else to keep a job. Guess I should have said no when they asked me to do it. Can’t win either way, shouldn’t of worked so hard and spent my time kissing rear ends I guess.

It’s very simple. If you want to or must continue working because you are far from your retirement age, apply for 4 suitable jobs that you can do. Don’t EOI yourself out of a job. You will not find a comparable paying job anywhere with the benefits and PENSION that Chevron is paying. Cross your fingers you are offered one of the jobs you applied for. The alternative is no job, but no loss either. Chevron will lay you off and you’ll get the same severance and benefits treatment as if you volunteered to leave. The only benefit of selecting to EOI is if you are able and ready to retire now and want to take advantage of a parting gift.... the extra money the severance check and the maximum unemployment benefits will give you.

Yes apply....little to lose. Also when weighing whether to leave for reference check your total compensation as you might be surprised how much you actually get in non-salary compensation (bonus, IRA and pension payment).

It sounds like I was in a similar situation to you (probably a similar age too). I hit the EOI button after realizing there is a lot to be said for leaving on your own terms. If you’re worried about the relocation costs back to your home city depending on which option you choose, ask HR. They are probably fielding dozens of similar questions atm and shouldn’t divulge your question to anyone who doesn’t need to know (including your boss). Good luck. This is a bizarre question to ask a bunch of anonymous strangers. If you want to keep working then apply for four jobs. If want to leave Chevron then EOI. There is absolutely no reason to EOI if you want to continue working at Chevron.

My current position went from 4 to 2. I hear what your talking about. It’s going to be rough for a while.... maybe even years if we still work here.

Do you want to work for Chevron? It sounds like your on the fence.

If you do, my advice is to apply to 4 jobs. If you don’t get selected there is no harm, you were thinking about Going for the EOI anyway.

I don’t know how it is handled now but Chevron used to have a policy of If you were relocated to your current position and you lose your job through no fault of your own they will relocate you back if you were in your position for less than 2 years. They might make an exception now, who knows.
