Heard from two sources today that sales and Virtual Sales will be heavily targeted next month. Trimming the fat and helping reduce the cost of the product by lowering the number of people getting commissions on the sale.

So what? Doesn’t mean that Sales doesn’t have fat, aka extraneous layers of management, to trim.
I'm in SJC and heard the same thing today
I'm not buying this. Sales is going towards a virtual model.
Every single year you see people being let go in the sales, and pre-sales, organizations at Cisco. There are some people, generally those with a lot of years at Cisco, in sales, who have been riding the coat tails of others hard work, making it seem like they're high performers. It seems they're adjusting the microscope and looking deeper into this, sending some of these people out to pasture because they're incapable of adapting to change, because they come from the golden days when you could sit at home and have the customer fax in purchase orders. My oh my, things have changed.
I think the panic about Cisco layoffs is overblown
True. Yet, it's very stressful if you are potentially affected
Curious- for those who think Sales/Virtual Sales layoffs are BS, why? Trimming sales teams that are not performing is one of the first layoff moves many companies make. Seems easy enough for management to trim low-revenue sales teams for now, they can always re-hire for those roles in the future. Why are those roles indispensable, if technical roles are not?
FWIW, I think the panic about Cisco layoffs is overblown, though understandably the stress is compounded given the times. Still, I'm always flabbergasted by blanket comments about specific groups (including OPs- would like to know more about the source of that info).
