Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Cvx stock 10 yr performance

Congrats if you bought Cvx ten yrs ago at $79.51. You have only lost about $3 with the close today at $76.35. Chevron may win a most woke company award but this stock performance is pitiful. We better select the best talent available in the reorg because what we’re doing now ain’t workin’. I feel badly for colleagues who didn’t diversify after the Enron disaster.

Yeah sure, blame it on a high tax and regulatory environment. That's your excuse for poor company results? O&G companies were extremely profitable under an Obama Biden admin.

Unless you are executive management, the stock in the ESIP doesn’t add up to a hill of beans. Of the stock grants are all under water. Better to be happy with salary and bonus. If you really think the stock is sinking, short it and get rich.

Better alternatives to invest in, why try to pick the best from a bad batch!

CVX and it’s peers have been the worst performing stocks (including dividends) in the S&P 500 over the past 5 years. The business model of international oil companies is broken. CVX has been booted from most countries where it is use to operate. The US landscape requires a highly efficient company to be successful. High CVX overhead plus a hostile regulatory and tax environment with the Harris-Biden administration will probably be too much. Does the talent selected in Rounds 1,2& 3 give you confidence that CVX can overcome these headwinds?

It won't go much lower, it might correct with the overall market though. Layoffs usually cause the stock to go up, indeed any kind of expense reduction does . You have no clue what you are talking about

I've done well "trading" Chevron over those years, selling stock as it gets too big % in ESIP. I sold all my stock that was purchased down at 55 -70 since March recently at $87, Before that I sold a chunk at $125 in December. I don't really understand your comment, Sure holding it long has been pretty bad , but there were the dividend payouts , and the company 4:1 match , so really its been quite good really. This is the reason why the dividend is so important. if it wasn't there the stock would be at $30

I wonder who or what MW will blame for this stock debacle? Watch and see in the next SEC 10-K reports if upper management was unloading stock in the last month or two...

NUA strategy not looking good. Unless you bought your stock when it was Standard Oil.

What are you complaining about? How about all the XOM folks who purchased stock at $103 and now looking at $36? Get smart and sell your CVX for a 3 dollar lost before it bottoms out even more. Because it is coming...

Entire industry will be facing strong social and political headwinds for next several years. Combined it that pre-pandemic demands will not be reached again (if ever) sometime beyond 2025.

They "rescued" people in round 3 at the expense of the people in round 4. Get ready for the slaughterhouse next month. I only know one person that posted up a round and got placed (diversity at its finest). No promotions or career advancement for years. Great job by management and HR by demoralizing the entire company needlessly.

Stock will continue to drift lower. More layoffs, budget cuts and asset sales will happen over the next 1-2 years. Dividend must constantly be increased each year. I don't think that management realizes the magnitude of the changes in store for the oil industry. It will be smaller and leaner than today.
