Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron Working its HR Staff like Dogs

I am so sick and more sick of hearing from every leader that has a meeting; "Take care of yourself and your family." While we are working 6 or 7 days a week on all the major initiatives that are going up. it is such bull so keep the insincere comments to yourself. How can we take care of ourselves and our families if you have us working 7 days a week and 10 - 14 hours a day. Such b—s—; yes I said b—s—!

Thank you for putting in the extra time. I know you all are not savoring this situation and appreciate the work you’re doing to try to do this right.

Someone has to put in the extra hours for the sake of D&I.

@izt Well if the TO workers are complaining then they need to STFU because they all got placed in R3.

In a townhall RM said that they didn't want to tire out the HR workers working the transformation during the pandemic. I guess thats not the case. Go figure that wasn't true.

"Chevron Working its HR Staff like Dogs"....for once. Welcome to what the rest of us have been doing for years: working more when it is asked of them.

Absolutely correct! Management should care about their employees during a already stressful pandemic where stress lowers immune systems but they don't. Instead they are working the company harder all while saying take care of yourself.

People in HR "working like dogs" have never drilled, tracked, logged or monitored a well in their damn life and be able to send out reports to management ad infinitum. Constantly defending decisions made on a $250m well.
Never again, no thanks. Peace.

Lol... you're complaining about working a lot? Other groups work longer than HR and this was a norm specially if you work with lawyers. You go home and you login and you work some more. On weekends, you do the same because legal department said they needed your data (yesterday) for some legal matter. No such thing as Work Life Balance.

At this point I don’t give a damn what they say. I am working my 9 hours per day and then I quit. No more checking/answering emails after hours.

What about The Chevron Way, Human Energy, Operational Excellence, Work/Life Balance and all the other worthless high school slogans? Actually, this is a common management tactic - work employees to death to meet an urgent deadline and then lay them off when the work is done. The employee will not complain to the boss out of fear of becoming a lay off target and being considered as not a 'team player', not knowing that they have already been selected to be let go.

"Tell the Boss when you are approaching your limit. Good (or most?) bosses will understand" i haven't laughed this hard in quite some time!, such boy/girl scout , so naive

Went through this in 2015 survived but recently retired it is a ugly scenario you are really on the relying on the people whose slates you are on. I wish you all the best and remember there are other alternatives should you not make it, do not feel that you are a not the best because you were not selected it is now about names and contacts forget the PMP and and PSG grades.

Wishing you all the very best there will be many heartbroken people but some happy they have a future at Chevron for now. Life and your future does not end with Chevron.

It was about time, right? It's not really fair to go through this transition with a light plate while your colleagues get their heads chopped. Earn your pay and quit whining

NEVER work yourself to that extreme. Tell the Boss when you are approaching your limit. Good (or most?) bosses will understand and help you prioritize the work that needs to be done first. Follow the fundamental rule: take care of yourself ! (if your boss won't deal with it, speaks volumes about them)

I think someone needs to send MW a direct link :) Probably better feedback on this forum than CVX can actually offer in terms of venue :) Is all LIP service as far as Chevron goes, talking both sides of their dirty piholes.

They really don’t give a sh!t. If they did, they would have changed the vacation or leave policy to account for COVID. They all have nannies to take care of their kids, second homes for their staycations, and a bunch of underlings to whip until the work is done.

Deloitte is a big help on the HR project but they aren’t doing all the work by a long shot. We’re all understaffed, including Deloitte, and work through weekends as the norm. Chevron politics and dealing with poor HR leadership outside of the project is what drives a lot of the additional work (and re-work, 11th hour directional changes, etc.). Some of the managers within the project are also dysfunctional, though there are some great ones too. Agree with OP that the emphasis on taking vacation time and caring for family is insulting, vacation is your last concern when you can’t get a Sunday off. The biggest issue really is that this website has to become the place for voicing concerns, that’s the biggest evidence of the broken culture, a functional company would be having these dialogues internally.

Wait, I thought Deloitte and BCG were doing all of the actual work?

OP if you are on a big HR project as you imply then chances are you are “safe” if you have not already been saved in an earlier round. You will probably be getting a big R&A for your contributions so take comfort in that. Who cares if your children don’t know who you are.
