Cindy Sanborn: Yardmaster Nemesis....

Supposedly Ole Cindy wants to get rid of YM in the next 5 years at NS. That's "Her thing". So OSS is supposed to run the yards. Good Luck with that!

You may not be aware, they were already rolling out company issued iPhones that replace the current ritbox, yardmaster work will be on the individual in real time moving cars with it. No need for oss as you depart/arrive add and remove cars from your consists in real time, oh and the trainmaster who is nothing More than a stopwatch monitor.... You're doing everything in real time, with a digital time stamp on it... He's gone. So they are farming out multiple jobs, breaking it down to individual crews so you can do a small piece of additional work, but when multiple crews do it you replace someone's job. I can't wait for retirement.

This wont work for the simple reason that these yardmasters develop a way of doing things that these talking heads cant possibly reproduce. They will fire these hard working men and women and find out quickly it does not work without them.

Train/Yard Masters are indeed going to be gone. Happening in Roanoke now.

as long as there are yard jobs there will be yardmasters. change them to road switchers if you want. shut down the railroad if you want. misplace TIH and PIH cars if you want. the carrier has options if they choose to enact them. it wouldn't work out as efficiently as they are predicting. that being said no yardmaster general committee is going to take a buy out for our seniority, she can stick that up her caboose and smoke it.
the long term doesn't seem to be what they are selling, just short term. quarter by quarter results, penny to penny earnings. get out if you can while your still young enough to start over.

Yard masters arent necessary. This job can be ran using a monkey sitting at a desk somewhere in atlanta. You dont need someone watching the yard.

They did that in reading for awhile , it was funny to hear oss on the radio telling crews where to put cars and them saying that those tracks already have cars on them, it turned out the crews had to run the yard until they finally put a yardmaster back on. Just remember when they do that to you it is not your responsibility to run the yard.

Lets call a spade a spade- we have individuals who are not actually qualified to make the decisions based on operational experience making the decisions. And because they have friends or are part of "the gang" they fleece shareholders for millions for their "expertise". When in reality a monkey could figure out that cutting jobs will free up money. Problem is, that freed money will bite on back end when you reduce operating capacity when you need it. Cutting for the sake of short term benefits is ignorant in a long term proposition such as a railroad.....

What’s funny is none all these “highly educated” executives want to do is get rid of jobs in which a monkey could do for a banana instead of a big salary and bonus. If they are so smart and experienced use their knowledge to cut costs elsewhere and maybe grow the business. Everyone one of these people are trying to reinvent the wheel and never do.
