Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How hard is finding a job right now?

I've been weighing my options, looking for a possible exit strategy but so far I've had no luck in landing an interview. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong (it's been a while since I last looked for a new job) or is it really just the wrong timing with the pandemic? Others who are searching, how's it going for you?

It’s sporadic. A flurry of interview requests one week then radio silence the next.

May as well stick around to see if you get laid off and get some severance plus unemployment insurance. You quit, you can’t collect.

No longer at Nike on my own accord, but was laid off by my employer back in February right before Covid hit. Ironically was in the beginning stages of interviewing with a company before it went silent. They started the process up back in May I got hired in June for the job to be rescinded. Just now having my first interview at another company. If you are open to moving your chances of landing a job will be easier. I would say start applying for jobs either way right now is your best bet. Nike on your resume is a huge bonus. Companies love that! Wish you all the best. I got laid off from a company I didn't like so it was a blessing but would be devastated if it happened at Nike so I feel for all of you.

I think @nyn provided a good point, I've been here for some years now but I remember what it was like being an ETW living 3 month to 3 months every extension. To be honest, I never let my guard down even after becoming FTE. (Meaning I always kept my resume updated and was looking out in case if I wanted to make a career job)

I don't think you should ever feel 100% comfortable. My experience, you never know when you'll get let go. Just how the economy is nowadays, any employer too... I don't know many folks that have been at employer longer than 15 years other than Nike.

@alq, good POV. Yes, it is possible though it can be slow and lengthy especially now. Most employers get hundreds of applicants per position, I imagine. Work on your resume and a good cover letter too. To increase your chances, you may want to work with recruiters too.

On a personal note, I too am formulating my exist strategy in case of a layoff though I am considering just leaving Nike. As much as I used to like being at Nike, it is just not the same anymore - does not feel right to me. I have been talking with a Portland based firm that seems to be a great fit. Three rounds of interviews are already behind me. Just now waiting for the final step (hopefully), which is meeting the owner. If that too goes well then I think on offer will be presented within a week to two. The whole process has taken 2 months so far.

Hang in there, everyone, and remember that the best time to look for a new job is while you have one. Do not wait until your are layoffs.

I still see people on LinkedIn talking about landing new jobs, so it's possible. Even during good economic times it usually take months to land a new job, so keep trying.
