Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Let go 3 weeks before the Layoffs

So when I first got the job I was told no testing was needed. A few weeks in I was told I had to get the series 7. So ok cool I’ll get it whatever. Failed it by a point, and got an extension to take it one more time. The deadline for my final attempt was March 18th, which is when I was scheduled to take it. On March 17th I get an email from the testing center that due to Covid tests are canceled. So I tell my manager and he replies to me to not worry about studying for the time being and that the VP of our department said my new deadline would be extended by the amount of days the testing center was closed.

Then I got no communication from that day in March up until August 3rd. My manager asked me if I’ve been studying or scheduled my test yet. So I referenced him his email to me saying not worry about studying and the extended days. He said “oh yeah sorry I got communication about that in June I just never told you”. So come to find out the window had now been extended to the 31st of August.

He was trying to get me a new extension until mid September because it’s his f— up but was unable to. So whatever, I swallow the bullet, and I’ll just schedule the 31st, no big deal. So the test is scheduled, confirmed, and he knew that on August 5th. And then on August 15th, my manager sends me a meeting request and without ever looking at me directly in the eyes, tells me I’m being terminated because I did not take the test/pass it in a timely manner.

How on earth any of this was my fault I don’t know. Pretty sure they were just trying to cut people out weeks before the layoff. So that “4%” they’re reporting to the media doesn’t reflect what’s actually going down over there. Real shame.

Had no idea this was going on! Assuming you received no severance due to the fact you were terminated before the layoffs.
