Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How do they do it? Call? Conference with HR?

Do you know how does the actual act of communicating that you've been laid off happen? What do they tell you? How long does it take?

Thank you?

When they do it it will be with your manager and your HRBP. Your manager will invite you to a meeting of course it will be made to seem like a regular meeting but a few minutes in they will give you the news. Word to the wise: treat every meeting with your direct manager as if that's the meeting. It can happen to anyone at any time.

@4gjf+16bHNR0F regarding saving pics, you may want to try snapfish, there is no cost and you can save your pics to their server for free. I’ve been using it for over 15yrs, makes it easy.

In the event that I’m let go, I tried saving numerous pictures saved to my laptop on a usb drive, but it doesn’t work. This must have been recently disabled because I’ve always used the usb drives at work. So now I’m emailing them to my personal email address.🙄

Strangely, I will welcome that f—ing call when or if it comes. F— Nike.

@aeq - Thank you for the info... it’s strangely comforting to better understand what to expect.

@mtl - 100% love the advice!

@zxh has it outlined correctly. I made the same mistake, had some personal files saved and it took me two months to get them back

When they call, be like George Constanza:

Expect you will be able to keep your company phone. Due to COVID concerns the amount of property they attempt to collect back will be limited - just laptops probably.

@rps I had a little less than an hour from the call being scheduled to the layoff conversation. I was given the explanation that the call would be about an "important team update". I was already suspicious because the leadership team had scheduled a cryptic org meeting for that afternoon. I later learned that the meeting was a layoff debrief.

Yes they paid off my PTO balance. They emailed several docs after the call with relevant info regarding PTO balances, COBRA, OWBPA notice, severance, data requests, etc. I did not have a company phone. I was still able to log into and use the laptop and systems after the call, I just lost access to files.

@zxh - thank you for sharing, and hope you find yourself in a better place now. Curious how much advance notice (if any) did you have from the time the call was scheduled to the time it happened? Can you give any other details (eg did they pay off PTO balance? Shut down mobile phone if you had one? Etc?). Really appreciate any info you can share. Thank you!

When I was laid off last year the director and an HR rep called me. The call was less than 5 min and impersonal. Within minutes of the call ending I lost access to the files and shared drives on my laptop. I made the mistake of saving a few personal files to my laptop and it was a long process getting access to those files later through Nike. Just food for thought if you also have any personal docs or pics saved on Nike devices.
