Legacy IBM won't be replaced in the foreseeable future. It will be modernized.
This isn't a new concept by ibm. Look at how VMware was handled. Or linked in.
You mustn't go with the rumor that red hat is young and cheap.
IBM will not merge Dept’s, because they have changed strategy. You don’t spend 34 billion to merge depts, but rather to change direction. IBM’s board approved the Redhat purchase because they needed to change IBM’s strategy, and that’s what is happening. Out with the old, expensive, Ginni supported perform services model, and in with the young, cheaper, AK supported SW/AI/Cloud model. Everyone thinks Redhat will be assimilated, BUT the real answer is Legacy IBM will be replaced. Welcome to the new IBM
I'm not sure why ibm isn't saving more by merging some departments with red hat. Why does red hat needs a separate people team from ibm?
I wouldn't say new. I worked in IBM in 2009 (Dublin), as a contractor. I remember an all hands where a director told the room; all FTE's will get a pay-cut due to the economic downturn. If you don't like it, there is the door.
