Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Potential lay-offs in US this month?

I’m reading through these posts and preparing for lay-offs any day now. Hearing from folks who have spent so much time at the company and seem to have such higher level positions than mine, even working database and development jobs, it seems like a no-brainer that our team will get hit soon. One of our people was let go recently, and we just found out about it today. Currently working at the San Antonio, Texas center supporting sales and partners.

I’m planning on polishing up my resume soon and applying to places as soon as this weekend just to prepare. I wish you all the best if you’ve been laid off, and fingers crossed for those of us that are waiting. I know times are tough financially and otherwise during this pandemic for many of us, and things like these can really cause a dent in our mental health.

Well, the 15th came and went, and I suppose I need come in here and tell people it didn't happen to me. I'm referencing this post - @1tep+16hDt9ys. I will say this; with the current climate, its no wonder I am paranoid. Be it Oracle's cost cutting or the pandemic or whatever. I'm glad to be still employed, but the signs I was reading, did not result in me being let go. Stay safe!

My team has a lot of people who worked there forever and are well over 65. Not sure why they stick around instead of retiring and make room for younger folks to grow their career. Maybe these layoffs will finally make more room for the younger crowd.

There's a prediction in this thread that the 15th of August will be a sad day. That's a Saturday so, I'll assume that the 14th would be pretty sad then too. Can't wait to see what happens. Anyone else see anything else coming this week? Some areas have started hiring again and planning new positions and doing promos and giving RSUs. So, it's not all bad.

There were layoffs beginning of Aug in the E-commerce/Retail (RGBU) division. Seems to be for those that have been with company over 10+ years. Severance doesn’t seem to even be half of their salary, which for some it should be. They were given a 2 week notice. A month or so before this, they were asking older employees if they were going to be retiring soon. Should have definitely been a sign of what was to come.

There are a number of folks that are in redundant positions that after years/decades are going to be given walking papers soon if word internally is valid. Look to Aria if internal and if you have a higher level position and no or very few reports, recommend you polish up your resume or get ready to go to plan B.
Have you been preparing and squirreling away retirement funds or still living paycheck to paycheck even though you are making 6 figures plus? The Joneses are broke, driving a new Tesla (that you lease...) to impress people you don't know and who give 2 sh–s about you is not a great plan. The median retirement saving is $69K nationwide, hope you are doing way better than that as I don't want to support you in years to come =) Please plan and get saving/investing...

To the poster that got laid off after 30 years with Oracle and feels he/she is too old to get another job. My 60+ year old spouse was laid off in April and found an Oracle DBA position through a government contractor. He does make less money than before as it is a different type of position, but he is getting the health insurance benefit that we need and enough money to get us across the finish line without having to access our retirement accounts. He is very much enjoying the gig as it is all work, no politics. A bonus, it is a remote position.

Well, always keep your resume updated. Unlike our parents, we would have many jobs with as many companies. One who gets complacent is his/hers own enemy.

Well we do the exits on a smaller scale as to avoid the reporting and negative pub. That said, we continue to hire "Class of" from the finest universities.

It got me 2 days ago after almost 30 years at Oracle with IT team. I am devastated because it’s too old to find an IT job.

What kind of signs do you notice before the axe falls?

Yeah, its coming. I would love to put more info here about why next week (August 15th) will be a very sad day at Oracle, as giving a 2 week severance as part of the package, it makes sense. I've been part of so many RIFs that I know the pattern, and the pattern is happening to me now. I suppose people want to believe they are following the rule book and not giving out any "clues" to me, but the writing is on the wall. Maybe it won't happen, but there are too many things that cry out - you're next. Believe me, I'm not a low performer, and I work pretty close to the top of the food chain. If this makes Oracle a better company, and my options and RSUs / stock retains its value in the long run, then I suppose things will work out in the long run. I'll be thankful I benefited from my tenure at Oracle, but really sorry if it happens to me. Again, it might not, but if it does...wow. Oracle is really trying one last hail-mary to turn the books around. Thanks to COVID, and some technical missteps moving to the Cloud, this is where I find myself...I'll check in here next week, and let everyone know how it went. Stay safe!

APAC? Most were done before Australia, except Singapore which was together with Australia.

OIT in APAC is practically all gone - both managers and ICs.
No one notices as offices are still closed.

Emails are going around about office closings. At least 3 in Texas. Lots of Oracle IT on the Hook. I'm hearing it is going to be a bloody August.

You can figure on this round of cuts to be done by the end of August. Smart of you to prepare for the worst - the cutting is wide-spread.

Partner and sales support in San Antonio!? You’re kidding, right? We thought that team had been taken care of already. Oh well, must have slipped through the cracks. Thanks for letting us know.
