Band 6 from 7

What should an average raise be moving from a band 7 role to a band 6 role? I have heard generally 10% for base pay increase, but is this the rule across the board or is there room to negotiate for more? I am aware of STi increase %, but only interested in base pay increase to help me know how to best negotiate there if possible...

It varies. Bit easier to get a higher number if you’re below market rate for the role. Ask the hiring manager or another you trust for the market reference range and know your quartile. If you’re moving from STI to variable with commission, keep in mind they’ll look at total target for the uplift, not accounting for the likely/realistic payouts on the variables (aka commission)

Also, easier To get a greater increase as others said if you are not a Caucasian male.

I went from 7 to 6 , got 12 pct, held out and they gave me an extra 1k. Then I went back to individual contributor role and they wanted me to take an 8K hit, held out and we settled on 6k. It definitely varies.

It depends on a lot of factors. Like a GM and sr manager of tele sales are both 6v but sr manager makes far more,

10% is not the max, it’s actually the minimum when moving from 6 to 7. If you get less than 10, then you were already above market for your current band.

10% would be the absolute max without HR approval. It really depends on where your current salary falls within the new payline. If you are already close to at market, your raise would probably be closer to 5%. As far as negotiating, don't think it will get you far, especially if there were many qualified applicants.

It’s whatever HR decides. From my experience there is no justifiable rhyme or reason.

I once had a minority female HR rep who gave minorities and women higher raises than white males. When I complained and asked for an explaination, I was told I would be investigated for knowing others salaries and she could not explain what factors were used to make the determination.

I asked if it was education, experience, and performance. She just shook her head and said those factors did not factor into percentage wage increases. I just figured it was her way of dispensing social justice and moved on.

It s—s when someone who has less education, experience, and has been on multiple final written warnings gets a larger percent base pay increase.

But that’s vzw retail. You are either in or you are out.
