Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

You Only Get One

Life is short, dont waste it at a company that is no longer relevant.
AT%T pays good for some but what does that matter when your fired and need to start all over.
Start making notes to use when you sue the company for all the shady c-ap they make you do.
Nobody knows what they are doing and anything you do has no value at all except to the corporation.
I worked there for over a decade and never once was able to do anything that changed things for the better for anybody.
Everything was proprietary and complicated on purpose to make things seem important.
The worst thing for me was the many friends and family members who passed. I was never around to see them because of the 24 hour shift you are on as a manager. I basically put up with it to prove to myself I could do it. Well I did it but it did not get me any kind of self satisfaction. I always knew if I didn't get something done then it would be a problem because it was made crystal clear what would happen. It also doesn't help your well being when your director and manager always talk bad about the the techs. Any manager that had a good relationship with their direct reports was chastized. This is because fear is the driver to get the job done. Discipline was always used as a scare tactic. What you need to ask yourself is would you speak to somebody in a dark alley the way you treat your direct reports ?. Once they surplus you your outlook will change and you will realize that the job was a losing proposition all along. And you were manipulated to cause harm to those around you.
Corporations such as this are here for one reason only and that is to make as much money as possible. Once they start claiming to care about people you should run. COB ?, please I have enough info to bring down the entire local area because of how untouchable they still think they are.

Welcome to corporate America, T probably has more corporate Bs because of its age and size, but the culture is like this in most larger corporations, go over the IBM, Wells Fargo and other boards and you'll see the same themes.. Because managers and executives are driven by different rewards than front line workers and lower level staff.

The thing every low level employee needs to understand is that YOU ARE AN EXPENSE to the company, but they need you for some work to be done, but IT JUST BUSINESS, they don't owe you anything or guarantee you anything, and there's whole groups within the company actively trying to replace you with something cheaper (outsourcing, automation , vendor product etc.) . So treat the job with the same attitude (just a source of income) and you'll be fine, do the bare minimum (because in the end it doesn't matter how many kudos you got) , don't rock the boat, collect your money and keep moving.. getting angry at a system you have no control over is a futile exercise.

I jumped ship a few years ago after 8 years. I thought all the BS was the norm. Those blinders worked well. Beat decision I’ve ever made, the grass isn’t greener..it’s a f—ing paradise.
