Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I'm not worried about layoffs

Frankly, it'd probably be a good thing for me. I've been wanting to leave for a while now but I'm too chickenshit to actually pull the trigger. Being laid off would take the decision out of my hands and give me a nice safety net with severance so I don't have to panic if I can't find a new job immediately.

Anybody else feels this way?

After 21 years, age and covid atmosphere doesn’t lend itself to many prospects.

I was one of those from the 2019 layoffs. I was ready to leave Schwab anyway since Chicago was a no growth office anyway. Got my lay off and took the rest of 2019 off to relax, as I knew that I wouldn’t be getting much time off at a new job for a while. Did the train across America and got to spend a lot of time with family. Started job searching in 2020 and well, you know the rest of the movie.

It’s not bad to get the lay off, it beats waiting for the axe to swing again. But, it’s a rough job market out there. Most of us don’t want to work in an Amazon warehouse or stock a grocery store.

Im worried. Been here for 25 years, have no marketable skills, no college degree, and no savings. Lay-off would k–l me.

I don’t think waiting for severance is a good idea, but then I’ve never tried it. I just think that with layoffs coming at other financial institutions and a bad economy the job market could become flooded. It’s easier to find a job while you have one.

Be careful for what you wish for! I will not want to be out of work in this environment.

I’ve been slowly interviewing for new roles outside of Schwab, but I’m with you. I’d rather it happen and get the pay out.
