Anyone else feel low morale in their department?

Yes, I opened my eyes and I totally see this.
Morale is completely in the dumps. They want to feel good about false scored Surveys but there are incentives to just score high for both the mid managers and employees. Meanwhile there is no motivation for people in departments because of lack of raises, bonuses, or promotional opportunities. Not to mention the layoffs and budget cuts every year. They want you to just be happy having a job and to do much more with less. It is pathetic and awful. F the leadership in this company.
- (Real) Employee engagement is very poor at UHG and its various divisions
- Your Manager will not show any integrity or compassion and will frame you up and specifically hold meetings to collect case data to fire and that is one thing she will also succeed at if you are non white ☹
- Stay away from Optum State Government- it is totally mis managed, they only need bodies there. Folks there can attest to it. Right, uncle & aunts of State Govt.?
Yes. People pretended things were ok, but the silence in meetings was deafening. People too scared to say anything. Negative surveys will cost you dearly. Don't take them, unless you have another job lined up, then be honest and let it rip.
Do not tell the truth on the survey if you want to keep working.
Next year too for anyone thinking a merit increase or bonus is in your future. Unless you are an executive.
Fun Fact: The CEO made more taking a dump, than you did all year.

If you wrote it with the same grammar as your post, I can see why your manager figured out easily who it was.
I deserve 5 stars from my team. If It’s a negative review I’m able to look at all the team members and what they submitted.
Not UHC, but know about surveys and how you should respond. I heard horrible things about email terminations at UHC.
- First, 5 stars on everything. Company is great.
- Surveys are confidential but not anonymous. They know who wrote what by trying to figure out base on what you wrote at the department level.
Why the 5 stars. Rate the company low, then they get p-ss-d off. You know what that means. They have to bring up morale which means more work for everyone to be happy which ends up making everyone unhappy.
Rate the company low, and they try to figure out the folks that do not like the company and you become part of the layoff pool.
Being honest and giving them a 1 star will only result in more pain. Surveys are meant to show to others what a great company they are. When you do not, they make sure you feel the pain. Your managers (that you may like) will be under pressure to bring up scores.
I know what happens in survey reviews. Get rid of the negative people. I seen it happen. Answer nice and you will survive and others will survive at least in the short time.
Every review I take is always 5 star. I learned my lesson at the last company when I did 1 star. My boss was a jerk. I stated as such. Yeap, he knew who wrote it. My mistake. I will not do it again.
Seriously, if the company is laying off in this type of job market after the positive earnings, does the company care about their employees? Why would anyone do overtime?! The layoff's aren't about you....its about your salary. No matter what you do, will it really get your salary off the layoff list?
From what I understand, if you're layed off the company won't pay your accrued bonus you already worked for, won't pay your 401k/pension contribution for this year that you worked for and you'll lose all of your unvested retirement.
Please be honest on the survey. Be as honest as possible. In the meantime, let’s keep up with the good work. Weekends and extra hours will help us through. Your manager can take care of your timecard. Let’s all work a little extra and worry about overtime and vacation time at a later date.
In my department, everyone puts on a super happy face, loving everything about the company, as if they live in Lala land. In reality, they are afraid to speak up for fear they will be on the chopping block next go around. It is sad. To top things off, we are told by our manager to not give negative critiques. Keep it positive at all times. If you are not positive and a “yes sir” “ sounds great “ employee, then adios! They don’t want to listen to what you might have to say, it is meaningless. So morale is like walking on eggshells among a bunch of cogs!
Yes. More calls and systems break down every single day. Stressed out of my ever loving mind.
Keep your head up. We all have jobs still and we need to work as team. As I tell the team “keep your eye on the prize”
We must look forward and work a little extra for the cause. Thank you for all you do!
Yes 100%!
