Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Don’t get it twisted

ER is not about cost savings it’s about getting rid of dinosaurs that are holding the company back.

Hey dude, I interface with the FANGs all the time. Their “youth” is a myth. Yess, they have cheap college drones playing fussball in the lobby when the aren’t deleting content, updating kiddy scripts, animating emoji or policing diversity “training”. But the people who know the infrastructure, deeply understand the way the applications are deployed and know how to run it all are serious, mature people, just about exclusivity male (caucasians are a minority).

There are no bright young people , its just a gimmick. They cant compete because they don't have the skills to do so, currently college just serves to brainwash the same gimmicks over and over. No real engineering principles are taught any more, nor the drive to learn, just programming 1-1, because its cheap.

When you see people comparing everything with Google or Amazon, you truly See how id–tic and asinine this narrative is.

ER is about getting rid of older people without counting them in the layoff metrics. Layoffs have to be more demographically balanced.

Allows them fire more older people. Try and them all to take ER, then hit them again with LR

I am an optical dinosaur and when your internet highway breaks, there wont be an OG's-Optical Guys to fix it :-) We never go away, we just move to another optical vendor

Funny, my calendar exploding for tomorrow to get on a Webex to fix a proposed design in a POC for a massive potential deal with a new player. No young’ens in sight to fix it, and I am well into the ER zone.

The danger in getting rid of the dinosaurs at the expense of the furry little mammal-like creatures is that you keep the people who know how to do things but lose the people who know WHY to do things.

Dinosaurs with a whole lot of experiences and high pays. Company is moving to software, how many dinosaurs have a lot of experience in software skill that Cisco is looking for? Time to move on to some other places that need our skill set.
Someday these "youngster" will be at 50+ and ER will be a none existing word like sabbatical and pension. Really too bad for them. They will eventually face the same bias that they are dishing out now with less benefit going forward....

The retirement pool is 7000 employees. There are 75,000 employees WW. I don't see any innovation or forward momentum generated by the other 68,000. I don't think the older employees are causing that problem. Where are all the "brilliant" younger people? Oh, Cisco hired on the cheap, and they aren't that bright, collectively.

I run circles around many young workers. When I leave they will have to hire two or three of them to replace me. Why? Because I do REAL work, not the BS stuff they work (?) on
