Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

The Company Removed Dead Wood

It hurts to say it, but the company used COVID-19 to clean up the house. Some positions simply were never really needed. Experience was pushed through and out and that Has happened everywhere.

Stand tall folks as it’s their loss. The goons that are bringing the corporation down now...their time will come. You too will bounce back and find a good company to work for again. It’s not just Baker, it’s the Industry. Maybe just a time for a change.

Some positions are simply nice to have versus critical. It’s been said that half of the workforce isn’t really needed. That goes across multiple industries and not just O&G.

Keep in mind that digital and automation is intended to replace many of you - that’s a fact. Reduction of workforce is single-handedly the primary strategy for every service provider to survive the next decade. Baker will be half the size it is now in the next 5 years.

This is how BKR managers speak internally to try and bolster morale when workers are confronted with ever more spacious offices and quiet workshops. They did it during the last downturn as well. No class, no dignity, no direction. This is the best they can come up with.

It’s a sign of how utterly lost and devoid of hope the company is and why they will struggle to recruit talent on the up swing. It’s also a pretty strong message to investors- Doomed! Stay away!

The dead wood as you describe is characterized by what? Lost direction, low morale, no reason to smile or lost hope? Nor empowerment to affect real change? I know several who were laid off, and they certainly were not dead wood, but intelligent, capable, and experienced employees who gave their all to it for many years. IMO the dry rot remains in the very top ranks of this company who is but a shadow of it’s former self, and the decay will continue as long as they are in position. What company in their right minds puts a financial person in charge who knows nothing about technology and market leveraging and true transformation. Dead wood as you call it is not this companies problem. It’s the dry rot at the top layers.
