Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Now job owners don’t even want people contacting them?

Seeing invites for office hours or open mic discussions where those interested can learn about the organization. That is equivalent to hosting a career fair but not holding interviews to fill a job.

If this is too overwhelming for selection reps and job owners then maybe think about not having a system where you have to open and fill thousands of jobs at once. It is sad that we would be treated with more respect and concern as external job seekers not to mention they would make better decisions with external candidates and look at background and not who they like to hang out with on the weekends.

By the same token, the only thing I can say is that talking to job owners and selection reps is futile seeing as they will pick whoever they want even if he or she didn’t even apply for the job.

It's all very confusing w/ the mixed messages that we've been receiving. Despite what we were told, I've decided to meet with job owners. As one other person said, the worse thing they can do is decline your invite and you're back to square one. Some job owners are receptive to meeting with candidates, so don't hesitate to schedule something on their calendar.

there are good job owners who will still talk to you without a meeting invite on the calendar.

Most jobs have more applications from the local group than can be accompanied. It is common sense that job owners will select candidates from their own roster except in the exceptional case when someone much better is identified than anyone in their current shop. That will happen, but most jobs will be filled by selecting from those in close proximity. If you were a job owner would you really not focus on saving your local group? It’s not rocket science folks. An external job search is different because the job owner as already identified no one local fits the need.

It boils down to if the selection reps and job owners know you personally and have a vested interest in representing you. Otherwise, you can forget it. They are unlikely to pay attention, read your resume etc even if they find time for you.

It is left to chance at that point, who applied. If no one they know are present, then you stand a chance.

The entire selection process is a cover, a cloak of fairness to hide behind if there are lawsuits on the basis of any of the protected categories - age, race, s-x and disabilities etc. They can show that they were fairer than Snow White ...

Centrally they've said that but it makes no sense at all! We all knew this round would be much larger and they should plan for that. Some HR teams have asked their BU job owners to clear their calendars and do as much as they can. My plan is to reach out and try, the worst that can happen is they don't have time and I'm back to where I started.

I don’t understand how one can get shortlisted by the job owner if we can’t talk to them?
Is the selection rep supposed to reach out to them prior to us posting to get a inkling? This seems outrageous.

Agreed! It would be better to be an external candidate! They’ve had almost a year to plan for this!!! Id!ots.
