If Employee's new, assigned, position within the company comes with a 10% or more pay decrease, those people were offered the severance package OR the opportunity to the the new role. The letters were all sent out on 9/21.
They have this week to make their decision. This is just the first step in the layoffs over next several weeks.....
For the ones that I heard got the call today it was people being given the option. Take the package or this X job which is a couple step demotion. I haven’t heard of anyone getting the call that they were straight up given the package today. Called by the upper superintendent at their location and have to make the decision by noon Thursday.
I am in the field and it’s been quiet. So what department are we talking about?

Actually, it's not fake news. Just because you are not in the know, does not make it fake. It makes you....well...not in the know. The OP is correct, it has started today. The details are just none of your business.
