Incorrect, if you're a journeyman you have unlimited call back rights unless you sign them away.

Supposed to be adding some carman jobs in Chattanooga.

Those furloughed should be expecting a call

There is NO time limit for recall at your home location.

It's 1 year that they don't have to call you back. That being said, unless you're just a total id–t, they will call you back before hiring someone new!

"What I'm saying is, let's say there's a machinist at carman with 10 years seniority who expects to never be called back. One day many years from now he could roll an upgraded student somewhere on the system assuming there is an upgraded student. Am I correct in this thinking? In other words, why would a new hire come to NS, knowing there are tons of journeyman who might roll them. I know that assumes that a furloughed person is willing to move years later."

My understanding, you loose all your rights if you're not called back within 2 years. After two years you'll have start over like a brand new employee. The only thing you don't loose is the time you have vested in Railroad Retirement.

In reference to the seniority posta. If i understand correctly they offer to call furloughs back first and offer transfers.. If you decline your seniority rights are null and void. They will then hire from the street.

I dont understand the last post, if you're called back and decline you lose your rights totally. Maybe they could be rolled by someone at another location, but I for sure wouldn't relocate for this company

I'm guessing there's not a single student anywhere on the system anymore. And when they do hire again, they could get rolled as soon af they're upgraded and this could last a long time. Just think, a person who is laid off could make a roll years from now, if they wanted too. Not that they would, I'm just trying to think through this.
