Just discovered the email that was posted at 6:30 pm tonight. Kind of sad that they waited until most folks were gone from work or logged off. What a surprise some people are going to get in morning. I'm going to have some whiskey with my morning coffee tomorrow.

@blb, great find! The old timers used to say that the purpose of the career development system is simply to feed the pyramid that produces the next ceo, nothing more nothing less. Nothing has changed.
My favorite quote: "those who do succeed will draw their sense of pride and self not from what they have built so much as from how they have risen in the organizations that selected them and shaped them to lead." Still true - individual contributors who derive their pride from their craft are not valued. Also the part that we are like the Civil service or Kremlin, lol!
In Private Empire, it starts out with Exxon Valdez and how one of the major contributors was the large layoff in the 70s.
Hey @etg+17Fy87bc.
If we have to explain the point, then we just lost 5 mins of our lives. Call it even. Move along to troll on another page.
Please bring "beer/whiskey" or fav drink to work so you can enjoy the lay off.
Amazing that you are an employee porting down another in an arrogant manner. It's like exxon permeates through everyone
Amazing. If you are an employee asking that question, it illustrates exactly the point. How sad.
Well that was five minutes of my life that I will never get back. What is the point?
That is a really good article. It’s crazy how nearly 40 years later much hasn’t changed. Really puts the companies failure to adapt to the changing world in perspective
For those doing the WFH tonite ... and staying up late, you will enjoy reading the article about Exxon that was published in the Texas Monthly magazine. It is a bit long, but tremendously insightful and entertaining to say the least. After you read it, ask yourself the question of how far as the organization managed to come in the last 40+ years. Enjoy the story at https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/so-you-want-to-be-chairman-of-exxon/
They probably scheduled it to beat the press. Hope the press wins out again.
WFH = whiskey from home?
what is this about? Please explain. You are making me nervous. I haven't been on business class flight and on International trips for more than 7 months now. I am loosing my platinum status and fancy meals. Now I need to worry about losing my job too?
Leave it to executives to procrastinate all day before sending any communication. Darren's been sending emails at 5 majority of the time (if it's even him doing it)
Starting now, not stopping until the morning.
It’s pretty sad actually. I’m drinking tonight and will WFH tomorrow now instead of going in.
