This came out of the emergency sales and turnover of stock from the initial C19 shutdown this past Spring. They kept the Racks active as fulfillment nodes while the web storefront aggressively discounted the merch. I myself received at least one of these orders, and I noticed at the time that it did not come from one of the big 3 FCs.

The article explains that the large # of Racks and low-cost profile makes them useful as customer service hotspots, a little like the “local” concept. OK.

Oh, of course, here it is. Article detailing the Rack-as-fulfillment-hub strategy:

OK.

Oh boy, anon, is this a bet-the-company sort of move to survive a critical holiday season?

With corp restructuring to follow if it should fail?

800 people hired in Seattle and 22,000 total I guess they plan to muscle through it. Dunno how their inventory systems will keep up though, they must be expecting a lot of demand? Do or die, that's for sure. Shutdown II looming also...

Are they trying to fulfill like Cedar, etc, but have the SKUs on site IRL in the stores as well? Is it a trick inventory play? Stores and Racks cannot hope to match the efficiency of the pick/sort machines at a FC. What is the thinking here?

dumb–ses trying to lead thousands of dumb–ses on 24/7 schedule? I see confusion and calamity for the holidays, and execs playing stupid games in their offices cheering each other on with kaizen.

Pretty much hiring anyone who applies on the spot. Yup it’s the same thing with hiring people from the street.

Are these incompetent "leaders" and their pets still pushing for Kaizen? Asking for legit, competent people who got off Extinction Island.

Still hiring for fulfillment at the store level in both Rack and full line. If the initiative is a bust, then there is a real worry that 2021 could be the final nail especially if more covid restrictions happen.

Some larger Rack and full-line stores will be on 24-hour fulfillment after Black Friday. That is if there are enough sales to justify such a move.

Do fire sale, Liquidate assets, shutdown, retire. Don’t be an embarrassment. Die Nordy die, I will sing you a lullaby. Bezos should put Nordy out of its misery.

Yeah, sounds crazy to me but so does what they wrote on their linkedin page...

"This holiday season, we're hiring 22,000 employees in our fulfillment and distribution centers as well as Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores to help bring the holidays to life."

Good luck with that I say...

800 in Seattle? Up in the far corner of CONUS? I wonder what they are thinking?

Cedar Rapids, and the locations of the two coastal FCs make enough sense. But why here? How strange, anon.

I saw they are horing 800 in Seattle for fulfilment – do they really think they will be able to provide usable logistics to all those new hires?

Rack email this morning, for some reason Nordstrom Corporation thinks it needs to remind me to vote. I can guess which candidate they have in mind. Just another reminder that I’m not going to miss this company once its debt goes to junk or outright default and they’re shutting it all down.

Checked the tech jobs listings today, reading the actual descriptions. I understand the issues of multichannel e-commerce pretty well. Looking at what they are hiring, seriously, guys, you still have not solved some of these fundamental problems? I’ve been away for years, and you’re still wrestling with item and inventory? FFS what do you people do all day?

I’m thoroughly black-pilled now and have accepted the decline and dissolution of this company. It is inevitable. First, let’s see if Christmas puts a fork in the BAM store biz. If online continues to outsell FLS then you must consider winding it down.
