It just feels as though many more than 3800 were let go over the past few months. While I have no evidence to back that feeling, can anyone comment on that number who may have more solid information?

I have a feeling that they mislead the numbers to make it seem smaller (8%). As in the 3800 or more alone reflects the Allstate North America only (25%). But of course, they aren't gonna say that.
6400 but factoring in potential new hires at lower bands put it at 3800
I agree with @1mkv+17NMVioA. Due to "Unacceptable Rating" of the Leadership Principle of "We're Transparent" by the execs and dragging out details, hundreds or more of employees quit I'm sure.
A lot have also quit, so when added together it’s probably well north of 5,000.
