Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Cancelling DirecTV (ex employee)

So as an employee, I subscribed to DirecTV - couldn't resist the incredible discount. Overall, I found the service less than stellar...Watching DVR remotely kept "breaking". There were problems with mis-information on service questions and 4K. When I redid the roof on my house, the techs who re-installed my antenna told me what a c-appy job the previous techs did on my first roof....and well, at this point, with the huge price increase as a retiree vs current employee, I just rather have YoutubeTV (finding it works much better, especially for online viewing). I called the 800 number. Told them I wanted to disconnect...They asked why. I said "with the increase, the price is just too much". Boom - I'm gone as a customer / you'll get an email tomorrow with details. Zero attempt to retain me. No transfer to a closer who could make me an offer better than the retiree [lack of] discount. Really surprised...I've "quit" SiriusXM on a yearly basis for the past 50-10 years. Each year, they make me an offer to keep me....It's almost like AT&T is happy to lose a DirecTV customer...or maybe they are so used to not being able to convince people to stay that they don't even try?

Oh well - loving my YouTubeTV so far...

Considering the company is actively looking to sell DtV, it would be wise for everyone who has it via the discounted program to get ahead of the curve and cancel it before T finds a buyer and the announcement becomes official. You know as well as I do that everyone and their brother is going to drop / cancel service the moment that announcement happens.

@4uda+17NTwFv6 retention means you will have to still put up with att c-ap service and their billing. the idea is to cleanse one self of the slime that cesspool nwo att projects onto their customers.

All you have to do is ask for a retention rep when you finally get a live agent on the phone,That is their job to retain you as a customer and get your monthly bill down to a reasonable number!Always ask to speak with retention agent as they will work with you or at least give you some type of promotion for a year or six months, then you can call back and renegotiate!I have been installing Directv for 15 years and this is what I tell the customers!18005315000

T doesn't need your meager business and less than stellar work ethic anyway. Good riddance!

I am a retiree and was forced to give up DirecTV as it was too expensive. I am on atenna with the Amazon 4k Firestick with an annual subscription to Amazon Prime which includes Fire TV. I also purchased the Recast which is Amazon's DVR for Antenna TV. I get @ 50 channels on antenna. i also subscribe to Netflix. This is an affordable option that gives me more than enough content/programming. As for 24 hour news, I am able to get CBSN via Pluto (free).

Direct TV - I pause tv and 7 seconds latter Iam watching T commercials . I watch a demand show , and I am forced to sit through more commercials then regular programming. The off button is right next to the list saved button , so guess what ? There is no slow motion like Comcast has , I have to continuously hit the next frame button . No matter which button I push its followed by a fair amount of lag time that drives me nuts . Etc.

you were lucky. My partner (ex employee) went to cancel the service recently b/c the employee deal finally ended. 5 transfers and an hour later they said it was complete. I have serious doubts it was done properly

I never bought dtv even with the discount. I like to watch tv when the weather is bad outside.

Of course I will ditch all T services once T ditches me.

I don't understand why Ratty and Stinky won't prop up the customer numbers for all the $hit they overpaid for with good retiree discounts so DTV will look good to next s—er that buy them for a shinny penny. Just does not make sense to me. Either there is some tax write off they cannot claim? Or maybe Ratty and Stinky are just stup1d. I bet the later.

But beware of Spectrum. I am an existing Spectrum customer for Internet Services (No T internet services here) and they will not give me the price quoted by the other prior response. That Spectrum deal are for new customers and the price is good for a year or so and then it goes up significantly.

When I retired my DTV went from $10 to $120 a month. I was also paying $39 for 8meg "Uverse" internet. They would not reduce my rate. Told me to quit for a month to get the new customer rate.
I did quit.
I switched to Spectrum.
Same TV package, 100MB Internet for a total of $88 a month.

To be honest, i have the $10 plan for ultimate and i think i've used it once in the past 12 months. If it wasn't for HBO MAX which i kinda do use i would just cancel it.

You are lucky to be able to disconnect from DirectTV so easily. I am also an retired ex employee. When I went to cancel my service, they forwarded me to the retention team and the rep I had was being a smart a– with me and was basically telling me that he was not going to disconnect my service. So I called back and spoke to another rep who disconnected my service, then I sent some emails directly to T upper management about the smart a– rep. After dealing with this and my retired discount was pretty bad and it was costing me more money than getting service from T competitors. So I went ahead and canceled all my other T services internet and cell phone and saved a lot of money. It shows how heartless T is after spending so many years working for them and how they could raise up all your rates when you retire.

it’s because as an employee, your heart score is 2.

that is, don’t let the door hit you on you’re way out.

if you were a 4 or 5 heart, they’ll throw in the kitchen sink.

know you’re sh– of how stuff works.
