Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A better and fairer approach to layoffs...

I’m sure there are a lot of employees willing to leave, but are holding out for that severance package which I can’t blame anyone for! If they would just ask EVERY employee in EVERY business unit if they would be willing to accept a package, then they could eliminate an awful lot of heartache and resentment! Of course I’m dreaming cuz it’s not the T way of reducing head count, unfortunately!

I saw this on +17GptxP8 and it makes a lot of sense to me, but it seems that this type of option will only remain wishful thinking.

I’m retirement eligible and very capable financially! My job was a pleasure to go to day in, day out for most of my career and suddenly took a turn for the worst! Now, I hate my job, but the work is easy, pay is pretty good! The fact of the matter is I’m not going anywhere until T offers me a package even though I’m ready now! If not, I’ll work for another 5 years, do the bare minimum, save some cash and retire on my own volition, no problem!

Why offer any severance at all when all you have to do is to continue the verbal abuse, increase the productivity requirements, and make higher demands on all of your employees or use discipline? People leave as these items reach the threshold that they no longer are willing to tolerate. It is much cheaper than severance.

you know a company has major problems when the employees are trying to come up with innovative ways to lay people off. I am sure cesspool nwo att can lead the world with innovative ways to lay people off. what a joke of a company.

The company can't get anything done correctly ... either externally with the companies they buy and waste nor internally with the way the surplus or do endless reorganizations.

In the mid-west last quarter it is rumored that they had 40+ to 50 central office techs between Indiana and Illinois willing to leave with the enhanced $50,000 + $30,500 bonus SIPP ... they approved ZERO of them!

This quarter we now have 51 central office techs that were testers surplussed out of 10 Canal Street in Chicago looking for jobs ... they are now down to around 20 people that will have to switch to lineman splicer automotive tech or admin type jobs ... when they had the exact number of people willing to leave.

The leadership is inept and insane never learning from any mistake.

they asked that very question on a survey many months before the severance offer,to which I replied a big check is what it would take and they did. All around me were saying thats nothing,I got $50k ,$24k, subsidized healthcare to 65, post 65 heath care subsidy, I also took pension annuity . Never said no to overtime or callouts, out of town storm repair.all paid off and doing very well. Some people these days say they cant catch a break but I saw many fellow employees turn the breaks down in my time.Like I told my kids, sometimes success is right in front of you, you have to grab it. I thank God, my country, family and the phone company for a good life and a great retirement.best to all

They are done with the offers. It's a 2 - Fer now. They lay off the good people and the work load keeps increasing for the folks left behind and the old people that won't leave. They will just leave on their own without the 6 months salary.

In my opinion the only reason you go for a MVO is if you are either retiring or have another job on the horizon. You are signaling to the company that you are interested in leaving. The company has to approve your MVO. You can bet if you say yes to the MVO, they don't approve it, and later on you are involuntarily surplussed they will use your desire to leave with the MVO against you when you file for unemployment.

Last Town Hall, they said no MVO was forthcoming.

Why would you expect them to do anything fairly, or be of any help to any employee?

Regarding the other ideas posted, Stinky is not interested in doing an MVO with the objective of hiring any new college grads to replace the older workers, when he can just rebadge them for absolutely no cost and send the work to new Mumbai U grads!

Have you noticed that questions around MVO are never addressed in the townhalls?

Why wouldn’t the execs follow our outstanding recommendation that they give us bags of cash and early retirement and a pony???!!!

Weird

It’s all just wishful thinking because anyone that writes anything here is hoping someone from senior management or HR are reading these posts and we all know that’s not the case, yet we continue to vent our ideas here over and over again only to fall on blind eyes and deaf ears!

if they really wanted to reduce headcount costs an get a younger cheaper work force , why not give the 55 + workforce the option for 6 month severance, if you stay on for 6 months with benefits part time 16 hours a week (4 hours m-th) to train / transition your job function to a college hire
