Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Not sure how this is possible

My coworker actually believes RJ did what was right in regards to laying off employees this pass September. He ACTUALLY believes that the ones who were let go paved the way for “brighter, faster, quick thinking” individuals to make their mark within the company. I swear it’s people like him who have this “elitist” view who should have been laid off. Man, he p-ss-d me off.

There is always people like him. I honestly believe that most of us were laid off because we already had many years and even with a good salary after so many years of good and hard work. Upper management decided it was time to replace us, which was not fair.

I never made it to management but I am glad I have never had to take away the job of someone because I needed to reduce costs. I guess management will get their bonuses for a "job well done".

Quite simple explanation... your co-worker is an id–t.

Talk about a major kool-aid drinker. There are always those people. That is almost cult like. It will come around to him eventually unless he is a butt kisser who moves up - and those people always seem to be the ones who do.

Also heard RJ laid off many who they thought were close to retirement - ageism at its best.

Apparently that gentleman has no clue what's happened throughout the rest of the company. I can assure you that the people left in my department are in no way “brighter, faster, quick thinking” employees. I can think specifically of those that are constant complainers, very loudly I might add. Those who are extremely unprofessional and downright rude to people calling in from branches for assistance. And even a handful that are totally unreliable, making excuses to leave early multiple times a week or not bothering to show up at all. Not trying to sound egotistical but I have years more at RJ than most of these and certainly have a better work ethic, yet I was the one they chose. I honestly believe it all came down to salary and nothing more - especially considering supervisors in my dept that I've seen firsthand busting their behinds who were generally well-liked by upper management are also no longer there. It's mind boggling.

RJ "WAS" a good place to work. I also used to enjoy working at RJ. Of course my opinion has changed since I was laid off. It would be interesting if there were a survey done what the results would be. I am amazed that RJ ranks in the "Best workplace" polls.

well then let him work the 50-60 hour weeks, work weekends and nights. Lets see his attitude in 6 months. I have spoken to 4 different IT people in 4 different areas and the answer is the same, total depression, nobody is doing anything extra, projects are just sitting there. Management is micro managing to the extreme. RJ needs a morale officer....good luck with that.
