Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Do they know already?

Do you think our supervisors already know if we are getting laid off? Has the list even been made yet? Not that it makes much sense but I can't help it. Layoffs are the only thing I keep thinking about and I know it's going to remain like that until it's finally all over.

Until the voluntary program is completed there is no way to know exactly who will be on the involuntary list.

It is easy to blame he supervisors but this decision is being made at a level above the supervisors. Supervisors don’t know. They will have to deliver the news without having been part of the decision.

What I know: lay-off lists will be finalized by Nov 13 (this Friday). The two weeks between Nov 13 and Dec 1 will be used by HR to train supervisors on how to fire someone.

What I’m speculating: if supervisors don’t know which of their employees are getting cut now, they’ll likely know soon, as trainings will be starting up shortly.

Yes and no. There are a number of people placed on a list to be laid off for each locstion. Likely more people on a list versus what was communicated as being let go. Partly because they need to account for all locations (sites, houston, etc.). That list will likely be dropped further based on locations.

Depending on how many people take the voluntary package, the smaller list will be dropped further.

So to summarize, yes they know who is on a list. No they don't know if you will ultimately be cut. Which is why it isn't being communicated until December.

Not the supervisors but the VPs for sure know how many and where - plus they don’t even have to learn a bunch of names before they’re cut.
Supervisors are the last to know, despite they provided all the info to
I wonder if the managers over the first line supervisors are the ones putting names to the target numbers the consultants setup.
Supervisors are just cogs and bean counters. They never know anything useful nor they have any real influence.
