Like the title says. I personally think it's because of bad PR and Biden winning

You people claiming the UP IS NEGOTIATING WITH ANY OF THE UNIONS have zero idea what your talking about. Our unions negotiate with ALL class 1 railroads not ONE COMPANY. The coalition of railroads have to agree on any contract offered. Please edumacate yourselves before posting
I'm sorry but there's way more to it than what we're being told! A couple of you posted some good points. Why are they only doing this now, when they could've been doing something the whole time? Recognizing your employees is something you should be doing the whole time, and not when its most convenient.
So new hires get a 10k signing bonus, veteran employees get 1k? UP can keep it and shove it Lance's a. ..!
Uprr in contract negotiations with TEY. Cheap way to take this pt right off the table. Political move if they have to use politicians to get what they want. Preempted the union all they can say is thanks . Union is clueless the best is yet to come stay tuned.
Most likely a PR stunt, but I will put it in the bank if it clears.
And it’s 37,000,000.00 for all you Einsteins out there.
It's an interesting move their taking considering everything going on. I do have to agree with the "gotcha" scenario though. When has the UP ever done something like this before? The virus is a serious thing, but I have never seen the UP take ANY interest in employee relations before. So why would they start now? Sure, I'd take some money, but I'd be carrying a pair of scissors with me to cut the hidden strings that are probably attached to it
They can ram it up very far up their asses for all I give a damn. 1000 bucks is a joke considering what we have been exposed to and having to put up with. It’s peanuts compared to what them senior management are getting on bonuses and pats on the shoulder just to sit on their nuts and bark orders and b–ch about sh– going wrong.
Hazard pay for covid.
I just don't trust them one bit. Nothing LF has done at UP has been for the good of the employees so I'm personally really gunshy! While it's been a tough couple of years and the good Lord knows I could use the money, I'd really rather see them higher some help. We've been so overloaded/undermanned in mechanical and no one repairs the locomotives any more so things look bleaker and bleaker from my perspective. If he's doing it to for the employee goodwill he'll get none from me. He's cost my family more than that in anxiety alone. I've learned why all the old heads hated the company this past few years. I used to really like my job, now I can't stand it UP!
37 people left? Sounds about right.
Wow, there are some mo–ns that post on this site. If 1k is paid to every employee that would be 37k? So there are 37 people total that work at UP? Good lord...
Getting a $1000 bonus is better than not getting a bonus. There's no point in dissecting the company's motives. Any agreement employees still left have been here for a while, and I've never heard of an agreement employee getting a bonus before.
Just so everybody know, the railroad in no way shape or form needs the unions anything to give you a bonus. Like the first poster says, there is a catch they are trying to get the union to agree too. Probably going to come out of our back pay.
It is kinda telling that they announce this AFTER the election results. One thing I know, these railroads will NOT want to take our contract to the NLRB this round....
I think it’s a step in the right direction. I feel the company is realizing that they need boots on the ground
Oops yeah 3.7 mill is still chump change! I’m really tired and not real good at large math problems.
Good spelling but check you're math.
I think its a slap in the face. if 1k was paid to every employee at this place that would only be around 37k. i'm sorry but that is peanuts to a company of this size. i would compare it to giving loose pocket change to the homeless guy downtown. I would also say the timing is a little obvious.
Unions have to approve it according to the article. So...unless they get their piece of the action we probably won’t see it.
It's on UP's employee's website.
Link to the article you are talking about? I haven’t heard a thing
If you all read the press release, it clearly states that it is for agreement personnel and will be given out in December. I am guessing that they are kinda scared now that there is a high probability that Dems will be taking over and will most likely look into where all the COVID money went earlier this year. This allows them to fly under the radar and claim that "they were there for the employees"
Must be te&y only cause all us locomotive quasi hostlers got was a get the [email protected]@k back to work!
I am on my 2nd quarantine since September. I have yet to collect sickness benefits from RRB on the first one because of the backlog. So I basically am missing an entire months worth of income this year. Thanks for the $1k, but what they should have been doing all along is taking care of those infected by Covid 19. That amount is around 10% of what I lost for not working. Almost all fortune 500 companies have paid leave available to employees who are either covid positive or have been exposed. Old Lance trying to buy your respect.
Another stupid post.
Agreement only
What bonus? Is this a non agreement deal?
I agree with 👇. No such thing as a free lunch.
I think I'm waiting for the gotcha that comes with it...
